What tires do you guys use for on-raod racing/bashing?

I dont exaclty race my rc's but i do ALOT of basketball court bashing (especially at the local all-girls school - awesome pulling power ;)).

I find that I wear trhough the stock rubber tires really fast and have resorted to taping them for awesome drift action :D

So my question is, what are the longest wearing tires around and what differences are there to the best performance ones?

My Tamiya Semi Slicks/Slicks set up has lasted me ages, perhaps 2 years. That's drifting on them too, tape and no tape.

If you want long wearing tires leave 'em in the sun to bake. It should harden them up. The performance tires are the exact opposite, they're a softer compound and gives you more grip.

Yeah, my tamya's lasted me ages, but they passed on today, so we ended up trecking up to bunnings and buying some electricians tape. I must say, nitro's drift awesome!!!

Try electrical tape over duct tape. That lasted ages for me. I wouldn't try this on my RS4 3 though, it already tries to spin out when the car shifts into 2nd gear on old rubber tires.

Jeeze new tires are expensive, $22.50 for rubber slicks with matched insert A PAIR! (thats $45 for 4).

How much do foams usually cost and do they last?

Foams are usually about $20 a pair. I use 26mm wide for the front and 30mm for the rear on my 1/10ths.

They last a while but are prone to chipping or being damages by rocks/sticks.

They have a 'shore' rating which relates to the hardness. lower shore is more grip, wear faster
higher shore is less grip, wear longer

I use Speedmind foams from Hong Kong...they are the only tyres which have seemed to hold up at high speeds with my V-One RR Evo, on a coarse surface..

Other than that, Ellegi or Fast Tyres are good for the money...u can normally get them for less than 20 a pair!

I find that on our track foam tyres are useless. Lucky to last five minutes on my FW-05R.
Our track is on the airport, so it doesn't get any traffic so the surface is very course.

Take off rubbers are good
Sorex are what i always use as i get them from
www.rcsquare.com
about half the price they are in Australia, including delivery.

A set of Sorex 40s with type A firm incerts last my electric car ages, infact in 12 months of racing (every second week) ive only just got my second set. On my Nitro they last maybe 5 race meatings.

I've been using Nitroshoes on my ct4-s and ntc3 and have had good wear. Im running a high shore rating thou.

Geez sorex 40s those are those things rated for extreme temperatue ie like australian open court temperature. Do you get much grip with those?

As for the cost yep not cheap. i just bought a bunch of stuff from hongkong through walawala_com on ebay
4 team sorex 24mms US$16.98
4 tamiya 24mm inserts US$2.29
the delivery is pretty affordable too so i went nuts and bought like a few sets of different types.

As for the tires i have a TB-02 which came with some racing slicks which have good grip but im pretty sure they are not designed with wear in mind. The fact that i tend to slide my car through the hairpins probably doesnt help althought it was strange because the inner part of all four tires had lines on it like a knife had been run on it. I think it was because that part of the tire was getting some kind of strange loading through the corners and it looked like it was wearing at the tire wall **STRANGE**

Ahhh thanks for the feed back james, i thought i was going crazy seeing the lines on the inside of the tire i kept trying to work out what it was scraping on, it was no where near the shell and after a month of looking at it that was the only thing i could think of (the bit where it looks like its wearing at the tirewall)

Anyway in a month or so ill let you know how my team sorex tires go (assuming i get my inserts by next friday). I think im gunna trial 28s or though im still toying with the idea of 24s

Currently, I am using an elcheapo set of tyres/inserts/rims from RMS. Cost $30 for 4. Hooked up straight away on the road. Kinda soft, so can imagine it wearing down soon.

The alternative (for me) was to do the usual HPI rims/inserts/slicks which would cost a bucketload. Although, my first set from 4 years ago are still going today.

Most the guys at my local track run Take-Off 27's.

Sorex all the way.
Depending on temp.
My 40s work well but out track temp is usually around the 45deg mark and tyre temps get up to 60 tops. Thats racing Nitro though. The track is cource and it destroys foams in a couple of laps

Cold days i go down to 32s or 28s. I sacrifice a bit of grip for life
