To be completely honest i have never bothered with after run oil (maybe because my car's suck alot) but now that i am getting a rc10gt i want to know what i should do.
The americans tell me that i should get some Marvel Mystery Oil or something, but some others say WD40 works just as well. So should i go wild looking for marvel mystery, get bent over and brutalised at my LHS for the proper stuff or just use WD40?
HPI doesn't recommend using WD40 as a substitute for after run oil. Get the proper stuff, it might cost you a bit but you'll know that you engine's taken care of.

Use after run if your going to store your cars for more than a week or so without running them....corrosion builds up inside the engine way faster than you may think! :)

A small bottle cost's about $8 max.
But this lasts for ages (even with 4 cars) because you only use a couple of drops a go.
I use it every time I put my cars away. It only takes a second and I think it makes them easier to start the next time.

You dont need to get after run oil. Just go to your local hardware store and get some light machine oil (sewing machine oil, elna oil etc...)
As has been stated, nitro is hydroscopic. It attracts water and left to its own devices will rust the internals of your engine. Afterrun oil does 2 things. It displaces any nitro left on your engine and provides a little lubrication for startups.
by accident i found that woolworths sells the light oil, its with all their cheap-shit motor oil, WD40 cans, and armourall products.
next time you pick up some bread, milk, keep this in mind ;)

I buy the Castrol brand one from Coles, I use it on my hair clippers too
A lot of guys use automatic transmission fluid instead of ARO. It's basically the same stuff as ARO but a lot cheaper.

bunnings seems to have the stuff taht matt is talking about on their little specials racks around the store (you know little hanging things in the isle). Aswell they also have mini WD40 cans for like $3 (yah i know the large cans are bigger, but lugging a large can around is pointless).
Gonna get some tommorow during break-in of my rc10gt :D

Castrol Handy oil is what i use.
Just use a couple of drops.
Have cars sitting around for 10years and they start first time and run perfectly
