Nothing special here. Everything is stock. Stickers took AGES to do and I stuffed them up as well. Hopefully no one will notice ;)

I have to resort to buying new kits and posting silly amounts of photos to keep my post count competitive with RC_kings...

Kit cost $280 from Stanbridges. Needs an ESC, receiver and servo, all of which I don't have at the moment so this baby is a shelf queen for now.

I like the wing it comes with, way better than the normal HPI silvia things, hey want to sell me the other rims it comes with :) the only other place i can get them is tower haha.

Looks hot as hell dude.

NO WAY!!! Hahahaha....Part of the reason why I bought it was cos it came with two sets of wheels/tyres. Saved me the hassle.

** First Impressions **

Ok, I couldn't handle waiting for RMS to get me the electrics for this car, so I pulled the gear I borrowed from my bro out of the XXX4 and put it in the Silvia.

I am using the larger spur provided and the stock 20T motor and a 6 cell pack.

I love this thing! I like the tyres a lot. They have a wicked amount of grip going straight, but when you get sideways, they slip and drift as they are supposed to.

At the moment, on my craphouse driveway, I prefer these tyres. The drifts aren't as slow as pvc so it's more exciting. The ultimate test , for me, will be to try it out on super smooth concrete where my old pvc wheels ruled. I used to be able to get huge 10m diameter drifts going all the way around me and my car.

The included 20t motor seems to have a lot of pep for a "throwaway". I'm going to try it with my 7cell as soon as it charges to decide if I should go 7cells or just stick with 6.

Don;t scratch (or break) that shell! lol

Yeah, as long as I'm not driving with anyone else, the shell should be ok. :P

I had to raise it cos the suspension is softer than I'm used to and the body was totally slammed and caught on the ground easily.

WOW. I just tried my custom 7cell pack. Bloody awesome. I think I might have to take it out to a smooth carpark tonight and let loose.

** First Footage **

Went to stirling and got a mate to take some footage with my digital camera. Had to brighten heaps to see the car....Came out shit, but at least you can see some of the drifts my car is capable of in stock form.

be nice to see it with some abs tyres :)

Personally i cant say i like any of the rubber drift radials...they're cool cause they're fast i guess - but you'll never be able to pull of a single drift round a whole track like you can with abs :) That's prolly the only thing that keeps me with abs :)

justo316

I agree dan, but I like the change for the moment. I found drifting with poly (and I assume abs) to be a bit on the easy side. Mainly cos everything was a lot slower and there was a lot of room for error.

However, I see the rubber tyres as a challenge. The drifts wont be anywhere as big, but it's more realistic that way.

I'm gonna get my missus to call about ABS today while I'm working :P

yeah i think it's poly pipe -lol- Whatever it is - it's black with the blue stripes on it -lol-

I do agree it's more of a challenge and good for a change of pace though :) And heaps more fun out on an open carpark too - on a track i reckon i would have a dead car - but out on a more open road would be fun :)

Although i used thew yokomo radials - dunno how different - or even if they would be much different from the HPI's?

oh yeah - and btw - ur kit looks horn for rtr man :) I'm starting to think RTR isn't so bad anymore either tho - i mean - i already kinda know the basics of how it's all put together - and not that hard to figure it/make persoanl adjustments etc i guess :)

I will eventually try the 2nd version of the yoke tyres. They have a single wide band of plastic instead of the 2 (?) small drift rings. They should drift heaps more than just rubber. I think it might be a bit like using a stip of electrical tape down the center of regular tyres?

I've heard great things about the zero 1 yoke drift tyres(single ring), all the guys in the US swear by them I would love to give them ago too. The price is the onlt thing putting me off.

yeah to get some new rims to suit and 4 or the zero's its gonna sting me $80 ish.. i would love to give them a go too though.

thats the prob too expencive, poly is just so affordable I can't justify buying any drift tyres.

....tape is a nice halfway point in between those stage-d tyres and ABs.

Hey justo, the car looks great.
I have ordered my own HPI Stage - D car with an RX 8 shell... can wait for it to arrive... Go HPI !!!

I had the single ring yokomo rings/tyres when i first got the kit...

The only thing i found is replacing em....If you wait too long to change the rings over, they will wear the rubber out, and won't function properly, as the rubber won't raise past the abs ring if that makes sense...

BUT - that said, they do handle and drift VERY nicely i think :) You get just as much slide as abs - but also get a lil extra traction, so it's easier to keep it in check at higher speeds :)

Tho still, they're nothing compared to the speed of the rubbers - they're more like abs than anything i think :) tho havent tried elec tape -lol-
