I assume you know the paper trick for meshing gears?
Run a piece of paper between the gears to get the correct gap. Dont forget that spur gears strip from being too loose AND too tight.
Worthy mention: Is you motor mounted perfectly tight? I strippped a spur this weekend because one of the engine mount to chassis screws was slightly loose. The motor was flexing under load and moving the bell out of alignment with the spur.

Hmmmmm yeh i knew about the paper thing.......NOT! ****in shit head I am :) So let me get this right - piece of paper between the spur and the bell? an dthen tighten it all together? But without the paper the engine is HARD MOUNTED against the screws to the chasis , what i mean is the engine cannot move furthe away to make it looser as the screw holes won't lien up :(

There has to be some way of aligning it, either the engine mounts or the spur gear have to have adjustment.
If not, what is you chasssis made of? you may be able to widen the screw holes on the chassis if it is metal to give you a little bit of adjustment. Dont forget to thread lock the screws though.
Yes, a piece of paper in between the clutch bell and spur gear should give you a pretty good mesh.
pics allusion. show us whats happening, and show us how hard this pinion is up against the spur. like azzachaz, i really reckon its too loose or too tight or even the motor has movement.
your problem is caused by excessive friction, big time!
What I do is, put the pinion and spur together so that there's maximum contact between the teeth but no so that they cause binding. The paper method will get you just about perfect mesh, not tight enough for my liking though.

I've stripped numerous spur gears on my Savage, its a very difficult problem to diagnose and fix with the Savages, because so many factors can cause it.
The best way to set the spur for maximum life is to first remove the engine, the engine mount, mounting plate, etc. Clean it all up, loctite all the metal-metal screws in place so NOTHING moves. Spur gears can strip even from a little bit of flexing or movement.
Then, fit your new spur gear. Tighten up the slipper clutch nut all the way, then back it off half a turn....no more than that!! A loose slipper clutch can overheat the spur, causing it to become soft, and strip. Make sure the new slipper pad is fitted to the spur gear correctly.....remove the backing paper before you put it on the spur. It should stick on to the spur once you remove the backing paper.
Once you've done that, set the spur gear mesh by using the already mentioned paper strip method.
This should maximise the life of your Savage spur gears.
Alternatively, you can buy them in bulk for around $3.89 US plus shipping.....thats what I'd do, because no matter how good you set the mesh, the gear WILL strip again one day, either because something gets caught in it, or you flip the truck onto its lid and the heat sink hits the ground, causing the motor to move and therefore stripping the gear.
I hope this helps :)

shit, havn't played with slipper clutches before. Seems I may be out of my depth here.
Gets some pics up ASAP so we can have a look. Methinks BALISTIC will be able to diagnose just by looking.
