hi there.
im completely new to the Nitro powered racing scene, i went and bought a brand new car on sunday. i have followed the instruction booklet to the letter, adjusted all the correct ideling screws, filled the tank, and made sure the fuel is reaching the carby. and that's where it all ends. i have charged the glow plug starter, and made sure that the glow plug itself glows when connected. when i try to start it, it won't go. im seriously considering taking it back and giving up on this for a hobby unless someone can actually give me the nessecary steps to start the car and run the engine in.

It's the 1/10th scaled Stone Brothers Racing car. it has a OS 15 pull start engine, i have no idea about the glow plug. and i am running GLO-MAX C/B fuel.
info about the car can be found here [link=hyperlink http://www.modelengines.com.au/awesomerc%20cars.htm

Listen, When you put your glow ignitor on the top you get a power readng yes?
secondly , doe sit have a primer?
thirdly, have you set your idle to higher then avergae? and have you also run the car really rich not lean :) maybe all he default needles are all messed up

ok so i have finally got it going. my younger brother stuffed up the mixture control valve.
now the next problem, in the manual it states that it should smoke a profuse amout of blue smoke. mine is not, so i have turned off the car and have not run it since. i believe that the nitro that i am running is not blended with oil. although when i was running it anywhere from 75 - 100% throttle it was smoking a bit. at present o am running Glo-max CB nitro (see picture).
am i correct in assuming that it does not have any oil, and if so what type of oil should i add.

I have used that brand of fuel before, it is premixed with oil. Although next time you buy it I would get 10-15% nitro instead of the 5% you have.
There wont be much smoke at idle, only when you bleep the throttle will a puff of smoke come out.
Although you have a new motor which needs to be run in, I would turn the mixture screw (the big one) out slowly until tiny amounts of unburnt(liquid) fuel/oil splatters out the exhaust. This will ensure the motor is protected by extra oil/lower temps during the run-in period.
Tell us how you go.

thanx for the help. and your right a small blip on the throttle does provide smoke out the exhaust.
can some one tell me what the difference is all about when it comes to the percentage grading for the fuels ie: 5% 10% and 15%???
Higher percentage of nitro gives better performance but don't go too high. 20% is what most consider to be top for bashing. Racers use 30% for performance but it sacrifices engine life compared to running say 5%.

10-15% is a safe range to play with, especially if you are in a hot climate like Alice.
It has nothing to do with the oil % though. If there is smoke then that is a good sign. Try richening up the mixture until you get some fuel splutter.
Run it rich for most of that bottle of fuel and then lean it out so that you still get smoke but not so much spluttering.

Have you got any pics of the car minus the body shell?
Its not actually a "stone brothers racing" car, its some sort of chassis with that shell on top :)
I'll bet its a Colt chassis, or a rebadged Duratrax Street Force.
As for the 5% oil, I'd say its 5% nitro. Because it has the "Recommended for O.S." sticker on the front, it'll probably have around 13-16% mix of castor with some synthetic thrown in, because thats whats suited for O.S. engines.
As for tuning your engine, follow this guide.

i've bought a bottle of 10% nitro, now wheni use it, will i have to make any changes to the mixtures at all, or will the mixture setting that i have for the 5% mix be good enough.

You will have to retune to compensate....every bottle of fuel is slightly different, even with the same type of fuel.
It wont need much though, so take it easy with the tuning needle :)

cheers thanx for that
mate, whatever you do, dont give up, your engine is tighter than a 16 yr old school girl right now...so its gonna be a bitch to start
but i wont kid ya, nitro rc's can be your best friend, but they can be your enemy (i remember the RR for the latter *kicks*) but it all depends on how much patience you have :)

When i first got my nitro car, i couldnt get it running either. Its more a case of learning what you are doing. Follow the link Balistic put up, also search tuning RC engines on the net...
I used these to get mine going. The biggest tip i learnt is that use only small adjustments at a time.. even a 1/4 of a turn can be too much!!
It does get easier. Im no pro, but can get my car running pretty easily now.. well, until the one-way rooted up.
