It is a rolling shell of the Mugen Avance K2-X.
It is a 1/10th scale 235mm Touring Car.
It is still on the offical list of Mugen's supported line-up so parts are still available fairly easily.
Unlike some 1/10th touring cars these things are built to last

This particular example arrived in pretty good condition. The car looks as though it has never been driven, not one scratch on the chassis could be found. Although time and oxidation have taken their toll, the tyres will need replacing and some of the steels parts have surface rust. Also most of the bearings have gummed up

Last night I tool the whole car apart down to the last part, and took note of what was missing and what will be replaced. The surface rust will come off with some light rubbing and the bearings loosened up with a squirt of metho and a drop of handy oil.

I am doing this for the enjoyment of the buildup rather than the end result. Although at the end of the day I should end up with a pretty desent car for the money.

WHAT I WANT FROM YOU:
Do you know of excellent places to buy Mugen spares in Australia?
Do you have any spares for sale? (motors/servos/recievers/exhaust/mugen parts)
BALISTIC: Please add to that shopping list if I have missed anything. Also, could you give me suggestions as to an ideal motor choice for this car?
Cheers guy, waiting for your help

Where did you find the cheap parts from??? Thats VERY cheap!!!
As for the parts list, you may need a few bits for the Centax clutch too, but they wont be too expensive IE spring, shims, etc.. If you've noticed, the Mugen has some aluminium deck supports. These are modified 3 Racing items made for a Kyosho V-One R. The place I bought them from sent me these instead of the ones for my RR Evo, so I modded these to fit the Mugen. They are a bonus and are valued at around 35 bucks :)
There is a complete parts listing on the Mugen Seiki website for the K2-X Avance, complete with part numbers. I entered most of these part numbers into the search at www.radiomodels.com.au and found they can get all of them. All the Centax clutch parts are listed there also.
Its a fantastic car to start a project with, considering its brand new and will end up costing you much less than buying a complete new K2-X, which I believe cost only a bit less than a Mugen 1/8 scale.
The best motor, IMHO, is the new OS VZ-B V-Spec. This is suitable for both off and on road vehicles. OS engines are known for their reliability, decent power, bountiful torque and moderate RPM, but this new V-Spec makes RPM and power which has never been seen from any O.S., or any factory motor for that matter, including Novarossi, Sirio, RB, etc.
It clocked just over 3HP in RCCA magazine, making it the most powerful big block ever tested!!!!

A bit of a mistake, I forgot to add postage into the equation above. As the cheap one is from america the price of postage will be about $50, so an extra $35 more than the Australian supplier. I was considering getting mutiples of some items so the cost savings add up pretty quick ($30 saving per fuel tank).
I might even sell a few on ebay or something. Just about everyone who has an old Mugen needs a fuel tank for some reason ;)
The US shop is ACE Hobbies. They sell the mugen wheels for a good price too ($25 a pair).
BALISTIC:
Those deck supports are sweet!, It was just about the first thing I noticed being different when I pulled it apart the other night.
Could you get me some info on the clutch? I've never seen one like that before and have no idea which pieces are missing or even how it goes together.

This article is about the best I've come across for explaining Centax clutches.

lol BALISTIC, I found both of those links SECONDS before I read your post. We must both be good at looking in the right places :p
When I am ordering I may need your help with the clutch parts because I think some of the clutch parts sets are the same as the individual parts.
It may even work out cheaper to buy another clutch?
When looking for motors I am looking for a big block, SG Shaft? Does side or rear exhaust matter? pullstart?

Cant fit a pull start, and it has to be SG shaft and rear exhaust.
Get the O.S. VZ-B V-Spec.....dont even consider anything else ;)
i also hope you have a starter box already :) or that may have to be added to the list :)

Given that I just broke the pullstart on my Alpha 3 and I have allready screwed the one on the Tiger I will be investing on a box really soon.
Problem is, I will have 2 different scale cars and another car with its fly wheel orientated different (inline with the car rather than across it)

Doesnt matter, I have an inline engine on my buggy, and a side mounted one on my RR Evo, and I still use the starter box.....you just gotta hold the car in your hands whilst you turn the starter box on and bump the flywheel :)

Cool, since I'm up for 2 pullstarts I may as well get a box instead.
A mate of mine at the track showed me his Mugen MRX4 which he had just finished building. $3000's worth and he is ready for next season.
I was amazed at the similar the MRX4 is to the Avance. I would guess that many of the parts are interchangable.

Your right about that....many of the part numbers are exactly the same :)

yeah, and sometimes they charge more in the Avance section than in the MRX4 section (like part no's AVANCE-1234 and MRX4-1234) ~:(
I have the parts listing for both cars so I can tell which are the same
