View Full Version : MY 1st EVER R/C
Thought I'd share with you's something a lil dear to my heart. It's pics of my first ever r/c car. A Toyota Celica. I remember wanting this one because my mum owned a celica when I was 5-6 years old. She was very hip then.............we were the Jones (hahaha). She had a white one though. This thing still works after 27 years of ownership. It's got pop up lights and air filled tyres. No biggie, just thought I'd share.

This thing has taken a real beating. Especially when I was younger. I'm stoked that I still have it after this long

sensational and you know whats the sad part , a collector like me would pay a fortune for it , but if it goes on ebay it wouldnt even get $10 .
i love the old stuff and thats a classic tandy example correct me if im wrong , takes 1 x 9V in the remote , 1 x 9V in the car along with 4 x AA
almost. It takes 1 x 9v in transmitter and 6 x AA's in the car.

dlux , its sort of drifting off topic but i will stop after this comment but i was in Tandy on Thuirsday last week and there was a guy in there looking for a charger to charge an old RC car called the overlander . This cat is a 1:14 scale Version of the Wild Willy i guess youd say ( the Tayio version ) .
Anyway , it was in prestine condition and i had no shame and went up to him and sussed him out and told him i wanted to buy it there and then cash . He laughed it off sayig he was getting it all running for his grand son so no sale ( nicely ) . I pulled out a greeny from my wallet and said to him $100 now ( nicely ) and he still shrugged it off , anyway , i just got paid for a job and after pulling out 4 greenies , he still wouldnt sell . There is a model / hobby shop 3 doors down from this tandy store and i told him id buy his grand son a brand new Nitro RC car ( he had 2 he was clearing for $399 ) and the bloke still didnt budge .
I walked out of there ( nicely ) but in discussed , i cant believe he didnt want to sell up . The reason i wanted it like extreemly bad is because that car had sentiment to me as it was 1 of my first of the better cars . I swear to god , when he opened the box , i can even remember the smell of it as it was a childhood memory o never forget .
Anyway , that was my story .
One day you too will be approached with offers. It's very hard to let it all go.

my first RC car was a "jet hopper", it had "turbo" on the transmitter! ph33r! :) I then 'upgraded' to a Tamiya Hornet, then Tamiya 'vanessas lunch box' then monster beetle, the rest is history :)

lmao@ James , very well put .
Yeah , the jethopper , first RTR Rc car that was able to hit 30kph , i loved it , in fact ive still got mine in its original box somewhere in storage . As far as the hornet go , Tamyia had 3 cars released that era which were the frog , the hornet and the Fox . ahhh , they were the days , the days you could win races with a Tamyia Fox ... lol

that was 1 of the biggest problems with the hornet and the frog ( from when i remember ) , they had soooo much power that you could actuially make the rear tyres bald in 1 charge and thats no bull . I remember even in 1 weekend at philip island id kill a set of rears and that was running it on gravel . Dad hated it and my chrissy , easter , birthday prezzies for a year were a few sets of rears .
Hey dlux , interest in girls ? was it you that about a month ago didnt even have the guts to talk to your bank chick , i could be wrong ... lol .
JD ... Those were the days when the generation of RC took off and started , you might have just been born i reckon and wernt old enough for the hype , now its just gone out of control .
no not me

remote, what year was it?
I was born in 85 :) but yea i was probably too young...
My first RC car, was some sort of 2wd buggy, me and my brother both got them fo christmas when i was about 5 or 6, I don;t know how good they were, it had one of those little changeble gears thingos, that you could change from high to low gear.. lol. Probably crap, but we had a ball with them :)
I have no idea where it is now, probably throw out years ago.

lets see jd , i was in grade 4 so were talking 1984 for the release of the jet hopper / mini hopper and about the same for the hornet , frog etc . In fact the bruiser was introduced bout 85 ( give or take 1 ) so you were born in a good year .. hehe .

Those cars were off their heads and unfortunately at the time due to fund the Typhoon Hovercraft that was just released , i sold the bastard for a measley $150 . The PB mini mustang now goes on ebay for over $900 if you can find 1 that is .

My first RC, like soooo many others out there, was a Jet Hopper - xmas '88. I remember running it down at the park that morning with dad... After that I had to get a job to buy my next one - KFC kitchen hand >: - saved up then bought the Tamiya Fox and started racing at Baysie. Upgraded to a JRX2 not long after that and, well, here I am 15 years later with another Losi back at Baysie!!
i too had a jet hopper when i was 10 or 11, thought it was the coolest thing on earth. then my my older brother got a marui rip off of the wild willy called the golden eagle or something. i then got a marui hunter then a big bear that my brother put a le mans 600e in it. it went sweet though went through gears like they were going out of fashion. then a fox, hornet monster beetle,i also had a pb minimustang when i was 13 or 14. i had a few others , i got some photos somewhere i will put up. thats right i also had a shumacher cat xls. memories best time of my childhood.

My first RC car was some dodgy Tandy jeep thing that self destructed if you even took it close to a rough surface. When I was a bit older (can't remember when..too long ago) I got a Super Hornet which got the arse thrashed out of it.I still have it and it still goes.I have just cleaned it up a little.See my Super Hornet thread in Members Rides. My other cars are listed in my sig.
