View Full Version : lube/grease/oil between pinion and spur?
do you boys run and lube, grease or oil between your pinion and spur?
back in the 80's we used to run graphite (the cheapskates use to shave pencils to get the graphite that way hahaha)
do you run anything or do you run dry between the pinion and spur?
Now that you mention it, I have been running lube on spur/pinion but only on my TA02(sealed drivetrain). If the pinion/spur were open sand and dirt would stick creating an abrasive. On my other cars (the ones with open pinion/spur) I haven't ran lube.
Graphite might be the best lube. It's a dry lube so nothing sticks to it while still keeping the gears from wearing. I'm not going to bother with it though.

You really dont have to run lube on geras....the plastic spur and metal pinion dont need to be lubed,
If you want to though (and it wont hurt), get a bar of soap, and rub some of that on the pinions and spurs....works a treat :)
DONT run grease or oil, because as Ken mentioned, dirt sticks to it, and it will eventually destroy your gears.
