whew, what a weekend! damn, talk about exhausting...
I got up at 4:30am on Sat morning, had breakfast, headed to the track at about 5am, arrived there about 5:30'ish, no one was there, at all. So I proceeded to start setting up my pit area, in my area of choice !whistle bummer that the ground isnt level where I setup, and my pit table was on a nasty angle all day, haha OOPS. I did loose one button head 4-40 screw because of this. nevermind.
It was a TOUGH day of racing in 2wd stock... with highly experienced drivers like Jay Toon and Ashley Whitaker at the head of the pack all day.
Jay Toon took out a 1st, 1st and 3rd in the finals
Ashley took out 2nd, 3rd, 1st in the finals
I took out 4th, 2nd, 2nd in the finals! !lmao
In the end Jay took 1st place, and is the state champion, Ashley 2nd, and myself 3rd.. I even took a 3rd place trophy! wow.. haha really suprised.
what a shock to me to be challenging the best, for the whole day. what a thrill. I was edgey all day long, rookie n00b styles.. hah
Day 2 was 4WD, and I was even more nervous than day 1, as I'd never raced my new Losi XXX4g+.. it's a virgin, out of the box, with an 'out of the box' setup... (I had done absolutely no tweaking of the factory settings).... I'd run one pack through it at ryper to setup the slipper and ride height, and done 10 laps on sat morning at the states to get some track practice.. talk about NEW to me.. damn. weird.
I managed to pull some first places in qualifying, and also set the TOP qualifying times for the day. SCORE! what the hell? !eek
Ashley and I battled it out in almost every race for the lead position and the TQ, I was supprised I took TQ. He is an amazing driver. While I believe my car was faster than his during qualifying, he is an excellent driver that made up a lot of time in some of the challenging sections of the track I was finding a bit difficult with my new car. It was after qualifying that Ashley's car's gearing had changed slightly which saw his car move a little faster than before! It became clear to me that I couldnt really afford to make any mistakes on the track.
Finals time. I dont remember the exact placings, but..
Ashley took 1st, 1st, and didnt race the last race due to already winnig the finals
I took 2nd, 2nd, 1st. giving me a 2nd place trophy! sweet
I think Jay Toon took 3rd, 3rd, DNF (car failure)
It was absolutely intense, and I was dumb founded by the performance of my XXX4 on the day, I guess the losi guys recommend an okay setup straight out of the box? :) Three trophies over the w'end, go the rookie, go the stockman !rockband
A huge thanks goes to Bowling Ball, he gave me some tips for my car and driving, most importantly the diff setup. I wouldn't have had a clue about the diff setup if it wasnt for him, infact I had them setup completely wrong, no wonder the car wouldnt steer on sat morning. haha
Also thanks to John (Ashley's father and pit bitch), despite being their biggest competition on the day, they still helped me out with a few little things (everything except their "secrets" hahaha)
Matto for helping in the pits, MJ for helping me on the track and in the pits, Ashley for psyching me out and cursing me to loose, and Corey for doing the same, you punk, you got yours in the end, well done to your 3rd place finish Corey, you deserved it!
Mon morning, I might go unpack my car now.. hahaha. I literally came home last night, ate, drank, and passed out in bed at 9pm.
Had a lot of fun this w'end, was a real experience!!
