Hello, just wondering if anyone here has the technical knowledge as to why electron migration occurs and what (if any) damage is done to a cpu from this?
I'd just like to know as I've got my current cpu at a 900Mhz overclock (athlon64 3000+ 'Venice', 1.8ghz>2.7ghz) but with an extra bit of voltage. 0.18 to be exact. Might this decrease the lifespan to within the 1 year upgrade cycle im usually in?
Thanks
doesn;t overclocking just have overheating issues? .. and melting :P

That's a wicked overclock. I dont know what electron migration is (too lazy to google it). As far as overclocking is concerned, I think as long as you have proper cooling you should be right for a year at least. Although, you're only increasing your voltage by 0.18 which is where most of the extra heat would come from so I'd say you're fine. Dunno how your system is stable at that speed though....have you stress tested before?

Yer, watercooling helps the overclocking :p and temperatures are a-ok. So, it should be right?
When water cooling fails.......

Tis liquid nitrogen incase anyone was wondering.
same stuff that froze the liquid metal terminator in T2. always carry some around incase you are faced with a T1000 on your arse.
