How are you guys , the last 2 days ive had over 60 emails fronm obvious scammers but they have all been something to do with parris hilton and the others are all that ive logged onto bad sites with my ip address and its being investigated .... yeah , load of crap , i dont even open them and just delete them .

Anyway, all of a sudden my Norton is dissabled and wont enable full stop , its also saying my rego has expired with Norton ( only installed a few months ago so not the case ) .

I say this and as i mentioned , not 1 attachment was opened .

Anyone else have the same issues the last day or 2 .

Go to http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.lodear.removal.tool.html and download the virus removal tool. Disable windows restore and restart your computer in safe mode before running the tool. You may also want to try http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.ryknos.removal.tool.html

There are a few nasties around at the moment reminisent of Sasser early last year. They exploit holes in windows so keeping up to date with windows update tends to solve most of these issues fairly quickly. These virus/trojans are not spread by email. Simply getting online is enough. Download zone alarm or another freeware firewall for some added protection.

Hope this helps :|

That sounds about right rc_king, I think most email virus scanners just strip the virus and let the msg come through (that's how our work is set up), but email administration isn't my bag baby! (we have an email admin at work). as narf mentioned there is a new outbreak at the moment, we are getting spammed at work with "you have visited illegal websites and are being monitore by the CIA and FBI!". love it when users panic....!

yeah but you have been to the dirty sites MAtt ya dirty bastard .

Narf , no luck with those links .

I say its these as ive built 2 pc for others a few months ago and they both rang yesterday with the same emails and all of a sudden the same problem . I have also used different versions of norton on each pc so its not a SN or pirate issue .

perservere with the symantec web site guys, it's about the best going around for removal tools. try starting at www.symantec.com and following the links if the direct links that narf posted didn't get you there...

A bit off topic, but does any one know how to get rid of a little spyware program called 'WinFixer 2005'. My spyware scanners pick it up and rmoving it but it keeps coming back.

I have always used addaware and spybot to kill off any spyware so what are you using?
Also you might just be reinfecting your computer by going back to a site thats putting it onto your computer.
I use Ad-Aware, Spybot and Spyware Doctor. But I think there is a secondary worm that keeps downloading something.

Go into the startup options menu in the advanced tools of spybot and untick everything that is not necessary at startup. Then reboot and run the scans again. It should be gone for good

I've been seeing winfixer on just about every clients computer I've had to fix over the past month. Most of the time I've been doing reinstalls so haven't had to get rid of it manually.

Try Ewido and the free online scan at www.trendmicro.com, you could also try googling "winfixer removal" as I'm sure there are instructions out there.

Also, don't forget to update scanners and scan in safe mode for the best chance of removing stuff.
