Hi All,

with the new rules in place for on road with rubber tyres only to be used i need a bit of info.

Cheers to 50 lemons so far on his advice.

The norm seems to be CS 27, the 27 represents the best temp its good for so for hotter weather you could go the CS 32.

Next question = does anything have to be done to the inserts that go inside? will it effect grip or performance?

I noticed Williams car had rubbers on it handled like it was onrails around the corners!

Its all to do with setup. Oh and if you don't have tire warmer, the car will handle like s**t for the first couple of laps.

Is there a meed for tyre warmers in summer?

Yeah, the ambient temperature isn't anyway near the temperature of the tyres when they come off the track

cheers Ben :-)

you should be a sales man! so how much for a tyre warmer then? have you raced rubbers before much difference? do you think it will result in slower lap times?

I think tyre warmers at Ryper are about $120 for four.

I have raced rubber on carpet before, and raced last weekend on rubber using CS32's. It was probably around late 20s in temp, and for the first couple of races I didn't use tyre warmers. For the first fours laps or so, the car was slippery as all hell. For the finals I borrowed a set, and the car felt much more stable at the start of the race. Now I just got to work on setup.

Once you have your car dialled in, the lap times will be about the same.

tyre warmers it is then so do you recommend the 27 or the 32's? Chen was saying 27s are popular.

Only question i have though, the amount of time being taken up between each race for people to get to the grid is becoming from 10 - 15 mins is that a severe drop in the tyre temp could it decrease the heat a lot within the 15 mins to make it pointless or does the reubber stay warm for quite some time? unfortunately sometimes people take longer than others :-)

For summer, I'm going to use 32s. Once the club gets a transponder system (in the very near future) the computer will run the whole meet. Ie if you miss your race tough.

tyres will keep a useful temerature for around 2-3 minutes after coming off of the warmers, but they will still be warmer than no warmers at all so will come up to temperature quicker anyway.

for stock racing you can just do a 'hot lap' before your race, zig zag all over the track to really heat the tyres up. it works well. dunno if I'd do it in mod due to lesser power available during the race.. a lot of carpet racers do this if they dont have a set of tyre warmers :)

well i tried the rubbers!

bloody hard! the steering has become nearly 3 times better! had to reduce my EPA in my remote incredibly about 20percetn less! the biggest problem i have is the rear end is spinning out all over the place when i take my finger off the throttle, the worst corner being that after the straight going full speed then taking the turn with throttle off start its oer steering rediculously and basiclly slides out. am goign to have a look at the ESC aswell and see what i can do there.

I did start to get the hang of it, driving seems a lot more 'accurate' with the extra steering but as i said its like its drifting around the corners due to the back end spinning out, am learning to reduce throttle more slowly.

James. most of the carpet racers do the hot lap for shits and giggles. That and they are keen/eager.

Sly33. Your xray has a one way diff up front hence the loose back end off throttle. If you have a spare ball diff then try a ball diff up front and see if that suits your driving style

Could aslo be two much rear droop, or the shocks need standing up front and rear. Could be a lot of things, rubber tyres rely much more on setup and driving than foam tyres do. Master rubber tyres and you will be a better faster driver no matter where you go, on rubbers or foams. That is the main reason we are introducing it. If you ever trvelled over east, or internationally you will now be on a level playing field with your new knowledge.
