View Full Version : Glow max CB
i broke my savage engine in on Black magic 20% and wanst able to purchase 20% again and had to settle for 16% Glow max. am i going to run into problems by changing brands/changing nitro content?
also, if T4trasher is reading this...do you do refunds on nitro? if i cant use this stuff i want to return the 12 litres i bought on wednesday. its unopened and i have receipts.

yer you can return it if you like
you won't have any problems will just have to retune your motor for the 16% other than that you will not have any other issues
oh ok
ive just been told that u shouldnt lower the nitro content from what i broke it in with.
umm, it wont be for about a month cause i cant get to perth before then. i also need to pick up some more paint as i didnt even think about a backing colour for the candy red and i dont have enough of it anyway ...oh well. live and learn.

Yeah you "shouldnt" really drop down once you've run a motor on a higher nitro content, but I've done it in the past and its never really been a problem.

the only thing you need to do is retune your motor.
I have never heard of that blend you borke it in on so yo would have to retune for a different brand of 20 % anyway the Glo Max is reccomend and made by the the OS agents
i have only ran 2.5 litres of 20% through it...if that makes any difference...
can you go up in nitro content like say if i use the 12 litres of 16% and then change back to 20%.

yer you can do that. I wouldn't say make a habit of it but every once in a while is fine. Don't change from litre to litre to litre though
no no no. i will stick to one content...but that should be apparent by the amount i bought the other day.
so honest opionions here... can i run the 16% and then go back to 20% without any damage?

yes with retune

yes as the nitro is also for cooling of the engine

less nitro will mean you'll have to lean the high needle a bit.

Once you change nitro content you should re-break the engine in. Run it rich for a couple of tanks than gradually lean it out again.
nahhhhhhhhhhh
only change the needles to tune it for the new nitro content, and just go a bit easy on it for half a tank or something, then resume as you were. Ppl worry way too much about nitro engines...

i always thought higher nitro the leaner u go cause i was running 20% for a while and changed to 25% an had to go 1/4 a turn leaner on the high speed.

just buy a litre of nitro and up the % back to 20...

the more nitro the hotter the motor will run so you richen with higher nitro and lean with less nitro.
well it didnt explode the moment i put some in the tank like thought it would (jokes!!!)
seriously, ran 2 1/2 tanks through it, fiddles with the needles and it was fine. slight loss in performance but its ok i suppose.
my plan for now is to use 4-8 litres of the stuff i bought and then return at least one container, maybe two when im back in perth in a months time and then start using 20%-25% that i will buy locally.
20 - 25? thats quite a high nitro content, isnt it??
Believe it or not but some of the 1/8th drivers use 30%. I normally use 25% on my savage engines. Bar the one time I HAD to waste money on 20% at a LHS I swore I wouldn't purchase stuff from.
yes, most 1/8th scale blokes run 30% and would like to run more if they could get it.
sure are. but thats what the hardcore do...performance before reliability.
