Hi Guys, I noticed at other club races, the drivers names are called out from the starting grid during the qualifying rounds...ie. u dont start drivin until yer names called out from the computer.

This seems to me to be a much better way of starting so as to avoid hacking / smashing from the starting line..

Is this appropriate for West Coast meets? Or is it an onroad thang? !silly

The staggered name calling grid start is only used for interclub qualifiers. We can start that way on friday nights, but we prefer the grid start, makes life more enjoyable.

I think a name-called line start is good for the qualifiers. As qualifiers arent races, they are your chance to get the best lap times to TQ for the finals.

Finals races are staggered and when the fat lady sings, you start. :)

I think the line-start (fat lady sings and you go) qualifiers at WC are fine though... :) you need to think about that first corner a little more.. hehehe

"staggered name calling grid start"

oh well, guess its a group decision thing. Just wanted to know if its something specific to Rypers, or any club can do it thats all ;)

If people want the staggered start we're happy to use it. Maybe we'l ask people for a show of hands at friday nights drivers meeting.

a staggered start is everyone goes at once, but the cars are staggered on the track. (grids)

a line start is generally for qualifying and the names are called one at a time to start.

confused?

i think the idea of the called line start is a good one it will stop first corner pil ups and make it cleaner.

but i think on fridays the first three races should be these and the final should be staggered

I have an engagement that I cannot shake. But that starts at 7.30..so will come down beforehand, and even perhaps stay for the racers meeting

ok, everyone seems to be very much for the name calling start. now personally i havnt been involved in a race like that b4, prolly coz i am too lazy to go to any interclubs on a sun morn. but whats wrong with the good old first turn pile ups?? isnt racing about the crashes??? or is that where i seem to go wrong? hehe

i just get the impression that the social aspect of friday nights is getting forgotten with the new points system and the talk of runnin these starts which point towards the finals as opposed to general racing. neither of which i am sayin is bad at all because they may both attract new blood, but at the same time these changes also tend to favour the more experienced drivers to the extent that there is less likelyhood of being caught up in the first turn bingles and they are generally the ones who run most consistent so will be up there in the points come the end of the year.

anyway thats my 2 cents worth and im not lookin to pick any fights, just wanted to provide a different opinion. i may well love the name called starts... especially if it means i am not near my brother at that first corner but this is just my thoughts atm.

but it is good to see some fresh ideas being thrown around for bayswater though, thanks shadow.
