ooooh yeah. I shouldn't have bought this, I couldn't really afford it. oh well haha

All i can say is, quality! I've never built a kit as quality as this, all the parts, the instructions, everything about it is amazing. You sure can tell Mr Hudy is an engineer haha, everything is incredible.

Here's some pics. I didn't get detailed build pics, coz I'm slack, but anyway, here goes.

aaah there's the antenna. 3.6" long. the antenna will remain inside the body shell. no requirement for a long antenna mast.. maybe it'll go faster now? hahaha !jerkit

my other bodyshell, still needs front holes reamed out, have run this shell once. going to give it another go soon. Wasn't impressed with the aerodynamics (handling) of my previous touring car with this shell on it... we will see..

Has to be better aerodynamically than the F430 shell I ran last w/end talk about a loose rear end!

Details:

XRAY T2 touring car (multiflex chassis technology)
Hitec HS-5925 digital, MG, coreless, programmable servo

Hope to get a Dodge Stratus or Mazda 6 bodyshell soonish. Should be racing this car this Sunday at Ryper, it'll be a learning experience!

Has to be better aerodynamically than the F430 shell I ran last w/end talk about a loose rear end!

that setup was loose because you don't take your finger off the throttle trigger when you turn corners. as a result, on sharp turns your car is spinning out, bogging down, then taking off, this is also why people are going past you in corners. Take your finger off the throttle before the corner, apply finger again half or 3/4 through the corner.

I had the pleasure of marshalling the 540 class, so got a good look at all the cars racing and their handling.

Also check your car has adequate rear toe in and sufficient droop. Check your rear diff isnt tighter than the front (if it runs ball diff's front and rear)

Last suggestion... get chatty with some more folk at Ryper to the point where you can ask someone if they can either help set your car up, or help you with a setup station or whatever you might need.

You can learn a lot by reading things off the internet, but it's nothing compared to the knowledge at your local track. It's sorta a shame you can only really play r/c during the w'end. Generally on Sunday people are busy organising their own gear and can rarely spare time to look at other peoples setup, etc. Mid-week is neat.. you always catch the odd experienced racer who can give you some tips or even take a look at your car.

The absolute best way to get your car dialed is to let an experienced racer drive it around the track. 9 out of 10 times they can tell you exactly whats wrong with it.

anyway, this is off topic. back to the XRAY.. what a machine, I'm going to go jerk off... again. !jerkit

Try putting the rear wing on it.

James, what kind of front diff did you decide you run in the T2.

you know what spins me out , this car looks pretty much ultimate as we all agree .... so did my kyosho landmax when it was released 10 years ago .

Can you imagine what will be released in the future , its gonna be off its head in 10 years with the gear that will come out

James

well this car is -the- latest to hit the market from anyone, it would want to be the most advanced, and at this stage is. :)

Ben, It's just one-way at the moment, but i might try out solid one way (not full locked solid).. as one-way gives only rear wheel braking. I wont know which I like better until I try it at the track, i had a quick crack on the street, but you cant tell much from the street.

i need ride height, droop/blocks, etc gauges.. :(

a few extra things about this car. we pay $630+ for this kit, which is $470+ USD. in america they pay $365-$400 for it.

In the USA they get a full set of foam's in the box, as well as the wheels to mount rubbers on. We just get wheels, no tyres, no foams.

In the USA they get a ball diff. we get a multi-diff (worth more I guess, and is probably why our price is higher).

The manual says you get a turnbuckle wrench. you infact do not. I believe it also says you get an antenna mast, no, no mast....

I've worked out the best possible way to mount the servo, with an thin alumn servo horn, as seen in the pics on the previous page. this way, the servo does not require shimming. With the kit horn's, you need to shim the servo back, so the servo throw doesnt hit the top deck. All good and well if you have a low profile servo, but I dont. an alum servo horn is better anyway :) lucky my hitec 5925 came with one.

I've figured out an even better way to mount my GTX esc, than what it's mounted now. it means re-soldering all the wires, but thats cool. should be neater, and the capacitor will sit down next to it on the chassis. found the layout on a pic of Paul Lemieux's T2. very tidy.

The car is well and truely ready for testing, but this crap weather isnt helping. I was hoping to get down to the track after work this week, but it's just not happening! grrr..

35deg temp's on sunday.. damn. it's gonna be some HOT racing.

If anyone can help me with an ideal rollout for Ryper that'd be nice. Or at least a FDR figure.. get me sorta on the right track for gearing. :)

nexxus
13-01-2006, 10:46 AM
Ahhh gearing, I tried to gear my TA05 at the same ratio I had the Losi and TT-01 at, blew the motor! *Whoops*

James, the way you drive even with crap gearing you'll still run 17-18 laps mate!

Got my new body shell for the state titles this weekend.

Dodge Stratus 3.0. Painted by JCART Racing.

There will be some other professionally airbrushed bodyshells available at Ryper this weekend (painted by JCART Racing).. for SALE... I believe cost is about $90, INC cost of shell itself...

hope it goes fast... :)

That shell does look good, but i guess it wasnt good enough to win concourse, that is with Paul winning and all.... !lol

Alex
07-03-2006, 12:00 AM
well technically, Paul did not win. his Indonesian Painter won it for him.

I had a real problem with judging the concourse.. because i thought it was unfair for all those who put in an effort THEMSELVES with their paintjob...versus splashing out 80 - 100 bux for someone else to paint it for them.

Pauls bodyshell was undoubtedly the best looking one out of the whole lot. It had clean lines, good spraywork, no crash marks, and the attention to detail was just amazing...

James's JCart bodyshell came in close 2nd, but the lack of attention to small detail and visible mistakes in the paintwork cost him the trophy.

Dont get me wrong, its still a great shell, and to see it racing around was nothing short of amazing..

To be sure.. I called for a second and third judge...and we all came down to a unanimous vote.

There should be different classes for concourse..best commercially owned shell and best personal effort...but the prob is...how can you prove it other then depending on people's honesty? !dodge

Alex

KB, with the body shells Ive seen coming out of your factory, yes you should have...if only you were there earlier in the morning!!

James
07-03-2006, 10:26 AM
to be honest, I dont really care if my body shells win concourse or not. I run the JCART bodyshells because I'm sponsored by JCART, if JCART win's the concourse, JCART gets the trophy for it, not me. I promote my sponsor by running their bodyshells, it's that simple. (on top of this, I cant paint for sh1t!! haha)

Pauls bodyshell was well painted, the airbrushing was very precise. It deserved to win. Nothing came close to it.

My bodyshell was removed from the packet, masked and painted in less than 24 hours. not bad for the time taken. The painter (JCART) drove from Bunbury to me to pick up the shell, took it back home, painted it, then drove it back up from Bunbury again to give it back to me....

Support your local business :)

ToadFish
07-03-2006, 06:19 PM
Yeah, concourse should be judged only if you painted the bodyshell yourself. !amazed

Alex
07-03-2006, 11:27 PM
but how do u prove its your paintjob?

Have a practice and paint day combined on the Firday. You have to mask, paint, trim and apply the stickers at the track.

James

Dan, the titanium is stronger and lighter than regular steel. Stainless Steel screws are also very good, less prone to shearing but heavy. I like titanium :)

Ben, i badly want the alumn parts, but they are just not available anywhere that I can find, at this stage. I've been keeping my eyes peeled on stormer, who list them but not as in stock..

you know XRAY 'polish' all their alumn parts for promotional purposes, no wonder it all looks so nice :)
