Well, the first meet of the new championship season was great fun!
It seems stock racing is very popular at the moment with the requirement of two stock classes (again)... interesting. It's a very competetive class considering we all need to work with the same kind of motor's... fun!
I had the mini out all day (it's all that survived!) and as usual it plods along without a problem. I used my 1900mah nicd's, and I must say, the 1400mah tamiya gold nicd's I borrowed off Matt last meet are way better. the voltage is off the chain. There was just no hope of even cracking 15 laps with the 1900's, where the 1400's just bring it home :)
Had the new XRAY T2 out for it's first every track time. Thanks to Jamie and Kevin for helping me out with setup. It cant be good when your racing touring cars and you dont even own a ride height/droop gauge, hahaha. must fix that.
I glued up some CS-32's that morning, and went out for some laps, a little slippery but the car was handling nice, my first time ever driving a one-way setup car. different than the trusty ball-diff! Took a little while to get the gearing sorted out (and some hassling of the other guys haha).. got it at a point where it was fast, and damn hot (probably too hot), dont think I'll attempt to gear it up any more anyway.
First qualifier was great fun until DANIEL HACKED ME!!@$!$! hahaha, it's all good, we we're play'in for a while there, thats the best fun. hehe. position swapping a bit too.
Second qualifier was even more fun, I can't remember if this was the race or not, but I had some great fun driving with b3n. very cool and calm side by side, bumper to bumper racing for a fair while here.
In my first final whilst starting at TQ, I was swamped by TC's before the first corner! trigger finger must be a bit slow or something, it was ON! I dropped probably 5 positions before slowly working back towards the front. BUT it wasnt me doing all the moving up, I had (forgot his name, curly hair, races off-road, he's good) right on my tail for at least 8 to 10 laps, he was so close the entire time. We both started lapping, which wasn't so easy and everywhere I moved, he moved right behind me, dodging the same cars I went around, really cool! We would hit the main straight, he'd catch me (had more straight speed), and then I'd take a little more asphalt in the centre of the track, it was intense, he really put the pressure on, big time, it was bulk fun!! Then we finally found b3n, calmly driving around at the front of the pack. We came around the first corner of the track where I had managed to sneak in on the inside and go past to take the lead, only to have my car fail on the first section of the main straight (zero steering) and the car run directly off the track into the fence, head on. wtf? and this was the LAST lap! hahaha, unnnnnlucky. !clap
I gotta say that Stock racing has become very intense and it's gotten to a point where car setup and driver ability are the important factors. Momentum on the track is the ultimate secret and he/she who carry's the smoothest momentum generally wins.
Turn's out I've fried my Hitec HS-5925 servo. !throwup
Going to see if it can be repaired, if not looks like I'll be investing in a new one. DOH! bad timing.
So despite the servo failure, I still had a bloody awesome time, I think because the racing was so damn fun and close.
I've got a feeling the up and comming state titles will be bigger than last years national titles event.
post your experiences from the day here :) or dont. haha
