Anyone ever constructed, or helped build an off-road r/c track?
We're looking into setting up an off-road 1/10th track at Willo's new place (lots of property to work with)...
We need to consider design, materials, surface type and equipment needed to build it :) obviously as cheap as possible...
anyone know someone with a bobcat and know where there's any hard dirt around? haha

Get some shovel's... Clay would be good, but just get one of those compators and compact the normal earth.
Make sure you put tonnes of chemicals on it to stop anything natural.
I guess it will wear in with more and more useage!
back in the day, the tracks were coated with cheap shit motor oil. this would clump the soil together and stop weeds and plant life from growing in the track. the soil would soak up the oil really well, it provided a really, really good off road track.

You could probably get a whole heap of old tyres for free from a tyre shop.
They make good edging

nice tips, shame dumping motor oil in the ground is a) illegal, b) filthy, c) bad for the environment haha.
tyres make good fill for making jumps, banks and side I guess. but again, it's garbage that will one day end up laying on the property.. :/
I guess a bobcat to actually dig the track out of the ground... might be the go. this might make it easier to build jumps and banks. (as we wont need to bring in soil, etc. kill the earth with a lethal dose of roundup? then i spose get to it with a compactor/water. There has to be something you can treat the ground with that will stop the dirt going anywhere.... hehe

The local Off road track in SA uses PVC pipes cut in half (length wise ) for barriers. Doesnt cause too much damage when you hit them !!

We used PVC pipe in the backyard. Mind you it was for a mini-t track but it works well. We even used the connectors for the corners, works a treat.

telby, you got a pic of your mini-T track? I'd love to build one haha. probably a bit easier than trying to build a track to support 1/10... getting into the mini-t action too :)
