i was thinking of building some ripple strips fo drift or racing that i could take with me to each session we go to
any ideas what to make it from
it would have to b
* small enough to transport in a small car
* cost effective
* reasonably light and strong
* only 10-20 mm high with a long incline maybe 1 in 15
we are using coke cans full of dirt @ the moment
im going to get flamed for asking this:
what is a ripple strip??

if he means borders/walls for a portable track, the best stuff is that ribbed pipe you can get, that comes off a roll, the awesome 80 or 100mm stuff... dunno about cost, but it rocks

a ripple strip is those red and white boarders that are on the apex and exit of a corner on a race track
cheers i think ill look into that pipe

the pipe is good to lay out a track, but not for a ripple strip.
Just get some track markers...
like these:

I just made about a dozen corner markers out of empty 10-pack dvd spindles. Just spraypainted the clear cover red/orange andthere you go....free stuff.

not bad, cept you cant drive over them! (unless you drive a savage or something). need to somehow stick them to the ground too, so they dont move when you arc it up over them :)

How about polystrene and a hot wire cutter?
you could make your own cheaply and they would be totally custom.

dude, thats an awesome idea, and hotwire cutters are pretty cheap! you could paint them with red stripes and everything. interesting!

Yeah, or you could make your own hot wire cutter (a few C-cells, a coathanger, a cardboard tube and some fuse wire) but still, a decent hot wire cutter costs next to nothing and just go bin-diving for free foam to cut up ;)
Painting is the hardest part, alot of sprays will melt it, so you have to be careful...
You could either weigh it down with some money glued into a little recess on the bottom of the strip or any other hefty metal.
Jeeze im a genious! - even if i am dislexic ;)
