Hi Guys,
Just running the new motor in (OS .18 CVRX, drag header, MonsterGT tuned pipe) and was wondering what maximum temperature you guys run your trucks at. so far its hitting 217F (103C) on idle which seems a bit hot.
I need to set the max temperature cut off on the failsafe so was wondering where you set yours.
Cheers.

Read this m8..
http://www.rbmods.net/enginetempering.php
hope that helps :)
i try not to tune to temp no more. i tune to the sounds, smoke and power. i keep leaning until either of 2 things happen
1. there isnt enough smoke at full throttle
2. it starts cutting out from overheating (too lean.
last time i used my venom it was reading 300f at stock needle settings so i havent used a heat gauge since then.
i wonder if that POS is still sitting on the golf course where i threw it. i didnt even bother returning it to PHC cause it wasnt worth the hassle. just ripped it off the truck and threw it away.

Ned you got 300f? ... I got a reading 300deg C ... that was 30 seconds after heating up a small block engine from cold ... WTF!?? I didn't think it took readings that high!
My SmartTemp is now taking readings of my pit table, never to see the deck of my nitros again, bah!
Tuning for smoke and cut-outs is deffo the way to go.

I operate my .23 between 220F - 250F. I tune for smoke and then half way through my tank temp test using a laser temp gun - I only use temp readings as piece of mind.

You need to tune for both smoke and temps....some fuels smoke more than others, so you really do need to check the temps to make sure its still within a safe range, even if the smoke is adequate.
i just occasionally use the spit method. if the spit burns away fast...too hot. should take 5-7 secs to completely dissipate.

Like you BB, I do use pack a laser temp gun, but its mainly to put a number in my head and stop me fretting about silly readings like the one that came out of the FailSafe.

also helps to use the temp gun because if ur running the right fuel mixture you might not be getting enough airflow over the motor, so u may need to trim up ur body or drill some airholes.

also gotta remember that where the rc's r mainly made is alot cooler then it is in australia ive read on one forum that engines hit 220f in snow and theres mostly no snow in oz so temps would be greater
