1/8 nitro buggys r awesome they mainly run .21 3 port engines but ive seen sum with .28 -.30 not legal for racig tho the good ones r the kyosho mp777 sp2, jammins X1CR is a good one they also have a truggy from the same chassis that is the X1CRT ive got a hyper 7 tq sport wich is great loads of power handles really well despite wat people say but u got the pro versions as well wich have carbon braces etc thunder tiger, mugen seiki (sp?) gs racing all make good 1/8th buggys the gs CL1 is a top contender with the pro kits u'll be looking at 1000 - 1300 for a chassis then 400 or so bucks for a motor plus 500 or so for electrics but many of the sport version kits/rtrs r great as well i got my hyper 7 for 600 with everything and it shits all over my tamiya ndf01 wich i might as well sell since its become a paper weight hehe

i dont race as the only race track here (Townsville qld) is electric wich is a bummer but i tear it up on my days off during the week the 1/8ths are quick as if u tune the motor just right wich is pretty easy after u get used to wich screws to tinker with on the carby i run nuthing but 25 - 30% nitro in my buggy and it goes like a rocket heres a good forum site that has a lot of info about any type of 1/8th buggy or truggy http://www.rctech.net/ hope this helps

you are a legend...i dont care what these guys say about you ..thanks mate
Bev, one of the top buggies and truggies at the moment come from Hong Nor. The X1 CR buggy and X1 CRT truggy. Up at Whiteman, theres a mixture of buggies from HN, Hyper & Mugen while the truggy class is all HN. If you're gonna get a buggy and truggy, I'd stick with a brand that does both models as most parts are interchangeable.
I don't know what your racing background is so whether you want RTR or kit models. If you're leaning towards kit models (which I highly recommend), as far as engine types go, the OS VZ-B v-spec seems to be the one thats appearing more and more on the track.
HPI's Hellfire looks the goods but I think for racing purposes, get what the fast guys are using. Think about parts availability and manufacturer/sales support. Nothing worst than breaking a part that you can't get parts for readily or no one at the club has spare parts to give you so you can continue racing.

Bev : my advice would be to decide if you're more after a 1:8 buggy for racing, or a 1:8 truggy for bashing.
There are differences in prices and option parts.
As for Hong Nor - they are good cars - the Jammin in gettin a bit old, but a good car.
If you want any advice, PM me mate.

buggy n truggys use the same chassis so no diff cept wheel size and chassis and arm leingth to mount the big wheels and make em werk

that is the main chassis alloy plate might be an inch or so longer in a truggy then a buggy and same for the arms wich makes up for the size of the wheels
