View Full Version : my broken mini-t motor

I've had it 1 week and already fried the motor! hahaha
took it to Ryper and had a bash on their purpose built mini-T track (indoors).
after three and a half battery pack's, I fried the motor, literally.
I'm thinking about buying a Kisbey Modified mini motor. (servicable, etc) about $50 though, damn.

how's the melted plastic coming out of that bad boy!? haha
my gear and mini-T:

way, WAY to stock anyway. it was begging for an upgrade.
how drivable is the mini-T on the track? does it corner well? is it smooth over jumps? is the track sized well? so many questions.

a few pics for matto. Ryper did some updates on the outdoor track, and more are to come. the grass is starting to look good, and I can see it progressing more and more for the future! :)

note the black ribbed pipe (which ive mentioned in another thread)... and the grass is starting to show. should look real nice when it's all grass'ed up!

shyeah!. stock, yuck. Perry had a Kisby in stock, but I need a pinion gear kit too, he said not to run the standard pinion with the Kisby (could over heat, and could be hard to keep car on the track!). so organising pinions, motor, turnbuckle kit. Ryper have lots of mini-T hop-up parts in stock, so wont be stocking up on hop up's till things break. :) (can replace right there on the day)
Also need ball bearings front and rear and new tyres soon.
The track is good, real fun! big enough to manouver on easily, but not a very long track... great for practice and the jumps are fun! the stock motor wont let me clear the doubles. a modified should :)
damn loads of fun, I'd love to try to get the mini-T owners (or potential owners) together and race with me on the track on sundays... they won't run the indoor track if there is a lack of interest :?
hope to race on sundays, need to organise new tyres for pretty much all cars. new motor for losi XX-T, shock rebuild... etc.
going well, having fun!
gday.
got any updates on this? you only bought this car 2 weeks ago, im amazed its sat for this long without a motor.
hows it coming along?

i'm thinking of trading a mini-t for my heli with a mate - i wanna turn it into a brushless beast on lipos ;) have you thought of taking it brushless?

update.. I'm waiting for Ryper to stock up on pinion gears before I buy a Kisbey motor they have there to suit. Perry said it'd be risky running it on the stock pinion (heat/melt).
the Mamba Brushless system is damn nice. The thing is, to use it, you need to change reciever, ESC (comes with mamba), Servo, and transmitter.
So to put in a $250 mamba system (motor and ESC) i have to spend money to change the servo, reciever, etc. The only way to keep using the standard 27mhz AM transmitter is to put in say, a Novak XXL 27AM reciever or simular.
It'd cost about $500 to run brushless, and thats on the cheap.
The standard mini-T electronics include a combined esc/reciever 27AM, the servo is a 4-wire unit, which is proprietry (not swappable), although I've seen 'hack's on some forum's on how to change it for a regular 3-wire micro servo which I might look into soon the standard servo is rather slow.
While the mamba brushless systems are amazing, and a Competition X system will outrun most cars elec or nitro on the market, it's simply too much for my purposes. If i was a 'basher' i'd consider a 'sport' mamba system, but I wanna run on the track, which means too much is going to be a waste of time.
running a regular brushed mod motor, I can keep the stock mini-T electronics until I'm ready to change them out.
Spending money on three r/c cars, constantly, means some luxury item's will have to wait, for all cars.
Perry says a good brushed motor will kick arse heaps anyway. The Kisbey is a goer for about $50.
When I stumble across loads of dosh (not this year, getting married) i might consider mamba brushless.
If you haven't gone to www.beatyourtruck.com and looked at their project mini-t video's with the mamba, your missing out. it does over 60mph, and just keeps flipping itself. practically useless!
The mamba is also programable by USB to your PC, throttle curves, etc. very nice. I spose really you can control the speed/performance of the unit by how many cell's or what battery type your running. the hardcore are using LiPo.. 2 or 3 cell. upto 11 volts! damn.
I'm definately loving the mini-T, cant wait to fix it, hopefully this weekend. Still trying to convince mates to buy them, especially now that you can get them ready to run for just $169. it's crazy!
psssst.
a little birdy tells me youve bought a brushless motor for the mini t now??

That would be correct :D
I've also got one coming ;)

that track looks so clean too :)
Just ordered mamba 8000 and 2x 2cell 1500mah kokam lipos ;) all i need now is new rx/servo and a whole lot of bling bits and she's a goer hehehe :)

mamba 8000! man thats wild.. haha. good luck controlling it! hahaha

FARK, Mamba 8000 is nuts.....I ordered the 6800 because I'll be racing and the 8000 is useless for anything but ludicrous speed :P

im not gonna be racing, and the 2cell im HOPING will keep speeds "relatively" calm -lol-
think car parks - ovals and golf courses -lol-

!lmao 2cell lipo keep speeds calm, BWAHAHAHA it wont stay on four wheels! hehe funny

its actually pretty tame!!
I got it and hooked it up last night...the way you guys were talking made me think "uh oh - what did i get myself into" and i was expecting something WAY out of control...this thing is really cool - it's definately pretty damn fast - we hooked up the same lipo batts to it when it was stock and had the losi speed motor, and that alone doubled the speed over normal batts....now - its prolly almost (if not more) hitting 60 kph just by the look of it.
Now I'm no great driving legend by any stretch of the imagination - i have only been off road since i got the LST a few months ago, and have only bashed - never raced in my life, and never really driven an rc on a track before - so there's a bit of background on my skills....
I was able to get it up to top speed, but if i hit the brakes too hard, it would drift out to the side and roll/flip in a weird diagonal/360 degree rotation kind of way -lol- I got used to that, and it's pretty easy to keep hold of ;) I'm gonna need to adjust the suspension and stuff tho to make it a lil more effective on the bitumen(spl??) Off road, it's actually easier to handle - dunno why...just is -l-
I dont think you'd wanna take this out on a small track tho....maybe a large scale off road track, but yeah, definately too much for smaller tracks from what i have seen at the LHS's track here :)
Just remember...i got no track experience, so i could be totally wrong....i guess if ur game give it a go...no harm going fast...well..except on ur pockets -lol-

It only does 60km/h, but gear it up and watch it go...the great thing with brushless is the torque, so you can gear it up and with a 3 cell it'll do 100km/h easy.
The 6800 isnt that far behind, so I cant wait to see mine go ;)

ooOOooh i cant wait to get gears and other bits!!!!!
The 6800 is supposed to be better on 3cells than the 8000 too i hear :) I have heard the 8000 isnt warrantied for 3 cell use, but i'm not sure, as i have had shawn palmer from castle recommend the 3 cell as a wicked fast setup :)
U guys seen that video of the 6800 in a mini-t in a car park?? I think there is a nitro rustler in the vid for a short period too...he just runs up and down the car park, and halfway through the vid starts wheely-ing at high speed! CRAZY!
I got the vid, so i can send it on or upload if anyone wants it :)

Yep seen it, its NUTS!!!!!
The 8000 will do 100km/h on a 3 cell, the 6800 will do 85....so the 6800 is still plenty fast!
On the same cell count, every Mamba motor from the 4300 up to the 8000 will have identical acceleration, just different top speed.
