Hey all
Just go my D1 kit in the mail today, so now the saving for the electrics start. I need help selecting gearing, as i dont wanna overheat my motor, or blow anything up.

I have already spoken to Jamie @ Starluck RC about a Schulze U-Force 75 and a Plettenberg Extreme motor on LiPos package, and plan to run that for some speed runs and stuff (just bashing kinda thing), and i'm getting a slower b/l motor for some drifting action.

The thing i need to know, is what gearing should i run for the extreme motor? I did a search for this, and couldnt find a similar setup in a yokomo...I could have done a search for the motor and esc, but would it matter if the same setup was in a different car? - like...if someone had the same setup in say a TC3, could i run the same gearing that he was using in that TC3 for my MR-4TC SD or would it be different???

Basically, i just need help choosing gearing -lol- Any ideas/suggestions appreciated :)

Oh yeah - its got a 30T pinion and a 70T Spur stock if that means anything ;)

Cheers guys!!!

-daniel

30/70 should be fine. or maybe 19/88 or something. try different options, run them for only a few minutes, feeling the motor and checking for heat, etc as much as you can.

so if i just try a few different spurs/pinions, and wait till i find a combo that the motor runs cool on? Is there like, a max/min/avg running temp for elec motors? - like...u know how nitros run around what evr to what ever temps?

if the bell end or can of the motor is too hot to touch for a few seconds of holding your hand on it, it's bad and you need to change your gearing

I run the stock gearing in my SSG. Works fine with 27T and 23T. Sluggish with 10T, but damn quick. Eventually

hmmm....looks like i might look at getting some new gears for tests and stuff then :) I'll just play with it and see what happens i guess hehe Thanks guys!

oh yeah - the temp thing - i just asked a bloke that deals exclusivley with bl motors over in the states, and he mentioned usually around the 170f mark is the limit on a bl motor - not sure if it applies to ALL bl motors, or even if it applies to brushed motors...
not much info, but i just thought i'd share it anyways :) hehehe
