Well with the new subforum I thought I'd give a bit of a review:

It's now been a couple of weeks since I got my Twister EP Fixed Pitch Heli for PHC. I have been trying to fly it at least four times a week after uni, and with a lack of indoor flying space, I have to fly outdoors during the daylight, which also limits my flying.

So I got home with my new toy and opened it up. Initally I was quite surpised with how light and fragile looking the heli was. I was actually quite scared to used it initally due to these facts.

First things first was to put the battery on charge. The battery that comes with the kit is a 650mAh NiMH, which is my opinion is a bit small, but hey, it limits the amount of concentration required when learning. The charger that comes with the heli is a basic 1.5A charger, which runs off a 12volt power supply. However since I have a Duratrax ICE charger, I know use this to charge the battery.

Having put the battery on charge, I decided to check out the instructions and DVD that came with the kit. I was very disappointed with both. Sure the setup information was okay, but only the DVD gave basic info on how you should start to learn to fly.

So now its time to start flying. Let me just say that this heli is very strong. Having crashed into the ground, wall, couch, ankles, pergola etc, I can say that the heli held together brilliantly.

After a number of battery packs trying to get used to the controls (much different to a car), and sliding around on the ground, I decide to start to 'bunnyhop' the heli. I was bunnyhopping around for much longer than I expected, until last week when I finally realised that the heli is more stable a couple of feet off the ground that it is 10cm off the ground.

Thats when disaster struck. I was flying around about 1.5 metres off the ground quite happily. The heli was hit by a small gust of wind, but being so light, cause it to wander off-course. I tried to correct, but unfornunately befor I could I hit a patio pole, and the heli came down like a ton of bricks.

Damage: Split tail shaft, cracked rear rotor, and popped the main rotor off the bearings.

So a trip to PHC is in order when I can find time.

Overall, I love my heli. The controls are a big difference from a car. Where you can be somewhat 'rough' when movements in the controls for a car, a heli requires very delicate constant movements. The heli is strong enough for a newbie to learn on, but still challenging to fly. The only thing, I was disappointed in was the quality of the instructions and DVD.

Oh and make sure if your learning, get a training undercarriage, it's money well spent.

I'm gunna start sounding like RB now

Get a twin rotor first off lol.... much easier to fly, just look at my videos, i had it flying around all over the place with ease on the first day i had it...

And i have since crashed it MANY times!

i was flying outside and it got cuahgt in a tree lol, it fell 10 metres to the ground, the battery went flying out and stuff, put it back on - and started flying again :D very tough little things :D - haven;t bought 1 single part for it yet... :D

Thanks mate, I actually sold mine about a month ago. I wasn't using it (no time) and prefer racing more, so it had to go.
