I picked up a second hand xxx4 the other night. This is the first 4wd car I have ever owned. Is there anything that I should do or not do that I might not know having only ever driven 2wd. I am reading the manual also but I have a couple of questions.

Are the 4wd's a bit noisier than 2wd's because there are more parts involved?
Will it be harder on batteries, ie less run time?
How freely should the wheels spin when there is no motor in place? I am guessing that the belt stops the wheels from spinning for ages like 2wd's.
I have put my GTB in the normal position for the xxx4 but it seems to me that it might be better if I switched the GTB and receiver around. Anyone else running a GTB in a xxx4?
Will I be able to drive across bodies of water?

The last one is a joke :)

ok. first of all, congrats on your new (old) baby. You will find the 4wds to be much easier to control / drive versus a 2wd..

When I went back to 2wd i was all over the place..when I was 4wheel drivin, the car was drivin for me most of the time and it makes u take corners for granted!! haha

to answer your questions in order:

4wds can be noisier than 2wds becasue there are indeed more moving parts in the drivetrain

yes it will be harder on batteries, but the difference is slight. its gotta turn 4 wheels instead of 2 afterall!

it should spin relatively free and loose if spur is not connected to motor pinion. looser the better. but also check your f + r diff housing (might be dirt and grime there). also check your belt to make sure there is no binding / rubbing anywhere.. oh, and check the bearings too :D

GTB...dunno as I dont have one! !lol

enjoy!
