Guys , got a few hundred $ up my sleeves and have always wanted a tat .

I am after the tribal arm band .

Do many people have tats here , wots the pain thresh hold on the armband ( i faint with needles but am not scared of anything else ) , how much would it cost and my final question is im body building atm and the arms are getting bigger so wondering if i get bigger if it will effect the tat design .

my gf has 3 tatoos' and shes the girliest girl there is (likes pink things ect ect)

if she can sit there talking to the tatoo person while shes getting a tatoo then i guess it doesnt hurt much.

shes got one on her shoulder one on her lower back and one on her ankle, none of them hurt she says.

the only time u need to worry about a tat stretching is if u get pregnant haha

Most of the guys I know see tats on a girl like some idiot with a texta defacing a $1 million painting. But it's personal choice.

love tatts, only got to for now.
Think of it as more psychological pain, specially when they hit the bone and you can hear it grinding. It's just a constant annoyance really.
Armband stretched out on forearm. Found it to be more numbing and worse on the fleshy spots personally.

psychopathic records label. Neck was cool, makes your whole skin crawl like when you get one of those cold chills as "someone walks over your grave"

Hey RB, not sure what Melbournes like, but its not like walking to to Target and saying Hey i want a tattoo !!!!! Here in Perth you could be waiting anywhere up to a month to have inkwork done. Go and find a design and take it with you, you wont find alot in the Shop, only generic ones that "everyone has" I have 3 tattoo's. ! tribal armband I designed myself and the other 2 are tattooed on my inner arms. These are Chinese litrature inkwork.

Once u get over the initial start of the inkwork it becomes very numbing. The healing process s*cks though with the creams.

JD
02-05-2006, 09:52 AM
a month ?!

just ring up and book somewhere, u'll just have to find a spare time, but u wont be waiting a month lol.

geez wish i was a tattoo artist with al this demand lol, and they get paid pretty good too $100 for an hours work... not bad at all lol

rcbash
02-05-2006, 10:59 AM
Haha, 1 month, you serious? Here in sydney all you have to do is walk in to some downer shop and wait 2 mins...

remotebandit
02-05-2006, 11:32 AM
yeah , not much of a wait here unless you wanna go to some upmarket $170 an hour bloke just cause he has a trophie sitting in his shop , allot of these blokes are over rated .

Also , no offence to those who have them but wots with people getting asian symbols etc . My mates got 2 kids and knows nothing bout the history of asia nor knows how to speak the language but is getting his kids names printed in Asian . I dont understand , is it for the attention so that people have to ask you wot it is . No disrespect but its just like me going to a shop and telling the guy to print my daughters name in arabic , wots the point , we speak english so print it in english .

My bro inlaw got quiet a few and we booked in for Friday when its his day off

I did the Asian because whatever I have tattooed on my arms, NO ONE knows what it says except for me, but I could also say the same for Tribal Arm bands "whats with everyone getting tribal bands" everone did it and everyone has 1...even me hahahaha allthough mines like 7 years old or so !!!!! but yeah in Perth there is very minimal tattoo shops....Dont be a dickhead and go to any shop who is empty, they usually are for a reason. Go to somewhere, where they have a good name, hence i waited for a spot to become available in the shop with a good reputation. Its on your skin for life and is life so dont be blaise.

I think a month is a rather large exaggeration.

DoH
02-05-2006, 02:03 PM
All Im saying is that, dont expect to walk in sit down and have it done, Sometimes you can ALOT of times you cant. I know of 4 MAJOR studios in Perth where I know of people who either own these stuios or work there and alot are booked up for weeks to months in Advance. Like I said, depends on the studios as there are a few butcher shop types about town.....Im just stating what I know. I know from previous experience also. Over east would be different im sure.

JD
02-05-2006, 03:22 PM
yes they are booked up for weeks and months, but that doesnt mean there are abosutely no openings anywhere in that time.

DoH
02-05-2006, 05:14 PM
Uhuh...........thats why i said "be selective" most of "THE" good studios are booked many weeks in advance....Any old drunk tattooist can drill you with Ink...I will say it again, be selective as its for life. He asked for for info and Im giving it to him from my experiences.

RB as Doh says do your home work on the tattooist check his work most of them have photos of previous work as its there for life. i have two one on each arm and i got a very good artist to do it and i did my home work my first one i got 20 years ago and the colour is still good and no regrets so good luck mate post a pick in a months time when the scabs heel and you can hold your arm up again ( just joking )

not necessarily unless there looking around under my arms, otherwise NO and even if they do there are so many different forms of chinese symbolism most Asians do not understand the wording I have written unless I actually tell them, then they can see how I put my working together and only then do they understand my words.

This is a project of mine from a few years back
Its still going strong as we speak.

this is Beer on tap in my living room,

or "The Kegorator" to its friends

It dispenses 8% alcohol beer most of the time, but has been known on (hazily recalled) occasions to emit bourbon & coke.

Its brewed by me in a sterile keg, & is pressureised by food-grade carbon dioxide, so it actually tastes good, unlike most homebrew.

and the best bit? it costs me 25c per schooner. yes. $0.25 a glass of 8% coopers beer.

tastes very similar to coopers red

LoL...the truth is the pain is entirely tollerable...even on the inside of the thigh or under the arm(the 2 worst spots for pain IMHE), otherwise no-one would have them.\
I have sat in the chair for a total of about 40Hrs with 2 VERY large peices on my back, 1 very large peice on my leg and both upper-outer sleeves done. It is only after 5hrs or more that the body starts to go into shock and a good Tatoo artist will feel what is happening to you thru your skin...helping them to stop when they should as your skin will only have a certain tollerance for perforation. !lmao
Be aware that they are very addictive and if you get one you may find yourself wanting more.

Good luck.

Bages I did it slowly over 2-3 years.Nothing was cut, it was stretched up from a normal piercing. You can go straight up to 00 by getting a dermal punch but it is nasty and bleeds like a stuck pig.Your lobes look good for stretching.Heaps of flesh there.

Oh well , today was d day , i got it .

THe bloke that did it stensiled the pattern onto the arm and said hed try a little line to see how id handle the pain of the tattoo gun .

Anyway , he puts the machine on my arm and just rests it there , i feel a bit of relaxing vibration , 5 seconds later he says " ok , line done , can you handle it ? " .... i ****ing spun out , it not only didnt hurt at all but actually felt soothing .... i couldnt belive it .... scared for nothing i was .

He did hit 1 spot that did actually hurt under the urm but by this time i was pretty numb so the pain only lasted a few seconds .

I got it at about 8pm and just pulled off the glad wrap now and let me tell you , i had 2.5 hours in the chair and felt great but i went through some real pain pulling off the glad wrap and the sticky tape they used just now but all good again .

1 thing i do want to ask if i can get a quick answer now is if i can use Zinc Castor cream OR Sorborlene cream overnight to control the scabbing .

Hope to hear back before i go to bed as i dont have the stuff they reccomended .

Attached is the tat just done . Looks shit as they just shaved my arm and its winter so im white ... spray on tan coming soon ... hehe .

Mazimbwe
07-07-2006, 10:02 AM
Please be VERY carefull about what you do to the tatt during the scabbing phaze...this is the most vital time for your tattoo.
The Cream usually recommended is Bepanthin(sp?) cream but you should check with your tattooist as it is their work you may wreck with the wrong cream...and they will have a prefference about the cream to use and why.
Usually what I have done is let the scab/ink set for a few hours after the work has finished. Remove the covering and shower washing the excess ink and blood from the area with warm soapy water. Pat the area dry and apply the Bepanthin Cream. After this you should not get the scab overly wet, even when showering.
No picking or rubbing the scab either, minimal sunlight and no swimming.
And the cream is not something supplied by the Tattooist...or never has been in the 20yrs I have been having ink added.

I find it funny that people get their upper arn tattoo'd and say
"...it not only didnt hurt at all but actually felt soothing."
Get an area that is not exposed to the sun and the rigours of life tattoo'd and then get back to me. Inside the thigh, under the arm, spine, kidney and neck will test out the pain-threshold a little more.

HTH

remotebandit
07-07-2006, 10:09 AM
of course they tell you what to get Jd but hard to find at 1am ( and when your so pissed its a bit hard to walk ... lol ) .

Yes MZ , it is Bepanthin and left early this morning to get some so am now wiped up .

As far as the upper arm being tattood ... mate , i honestly cant believe how good it felt , it was like a massage ... intill he hit the inside . Fortunately im not going any further on tats so wont have to learn what pain is anywhere else .

remotebandit
07-07-2006, 10:11 AM
ohhh MZ ... how long does this cream application thing go for , im assuming about 10 days ?

Mazimbwe
07-07-2006, 12:00 PM
I kept the cream application going till all the scab was gone. The Scab is the body healing, and once it is healed the tattoo is permanent, scab care and protection is very important for the long-term look & condition of the life-art you now have.

Good luck with it.

The back of the neck isn't so bad, kind of makes you get that feeling when supposedly someone is walking over your grave.

MR Rocky

lol, it's the psychopathic records label.

I'm not sure on touch ups, I would think it'd be better to have the whole lot done. From both points of view, you don't want a dark patch of fresh ink and im sure they wouldn't really bother setting up for a 2 minute touch up. I've also heard of artist preferring not to touch others work, so not sure really. I also have a blemsih from some welding spatter on my forearm. a perfect dot right in the middle. I'm just opting to wait a few years then i might get it totally redone.

Mazimbwe
08-09-2006, 10:06 AM
RB, It is totally possible to touch -up work but as Rocky stated it is often a Whole piece that gets the fresh ink rather than just a patch in the whole piece.
And most artists will NOT touch other artists work, big No-No among tatooists, so if you can go back and see the original Tatooist but check with your ink-man first about it.

Howdy Rocky...you will notice that "Neck" is the last on the list of Painfull-areas to get tattoo'd as it is not as bad as inside the thighor arm....it made my head rattle and my skin-crawl in one small section.

MR Rocky
08-09-2006, 10:49 AM

When I get a chance I will update with a photo of my sleeve - have had two more visits with all the background black and grey shading done, and the scales added to the dragons body. The next two (last two) visits will be adding the colour to the dragon and the japanese maple leaves........ !super

Wolverine fan actually. The design is from one of the earliest editions of Wolverine(Number 4 I think) with the collectable rear cover art. I knew the minute I saw it that it was going to be something I wanted as a Tat.
Still have a whole lot to go on it but 17+Hrs has gone into it already.

RB oh great mod of all mod's two things..1) It isn't a fricken spider. It's an army ant.It is the symbol used by my favorite band,The Prodigy.2) I knew there was a good reason we haven't seen any pics of you on here since the server crash.MMmm maybe that was the reason for it......server couldn't handle the horror of RB's head.

MZ your avatar is hypnotic...:P i got my tatt @ 23 unfotunately the person is now deceased or i would have more work done. zodiac sign with coiled flames around. on my upper right arm. and yeah after a while i got numb with pain, about after 20 mins. top of the tatt is over my arm socket so its near bone but it didnt seem to matter. after a while i looked over the work and saw the blood coming off it. shocked me because it didnt seem to be in proportion of the pain i wasnt feeling. when he started a new complete section i could feel the pain fresh as ever. best feeling to comparing it to is someone cutting you with glass....slowly. first night of sleep is always the hardest. laying there with bepanthen cream and bloody glad wrap over your shoulder and arm. next tatt i want is one with H.R Geiger artwork aka the guy who does all the Alien creatures artwork. i want part of my spine done in that.
