So who's planning on getting one of these? I'm thinking about it, gonna be a shelf queen though! Done in chrome red i think :)
My sources in Japan tell me the kit will be retailing for $425-475au (thats from japan obviously) plus postage. Probably be $200-300 more over here.
There will be an add on module available to add full lighting etc to it.
Currently expected to be available late this month!

A Person I know who orders stock through Hobbies Australia contacted them re stock and apparently they are supposed to be available on the 16th of this month, I have placed a preorder :) Obviously though I'm guessing theres every chance they WONT be available on the 16th and I might have to wait longer.
Edit: btw, he was told $545. But I have read rumors on American forums about 4 different version of the truck being released, one base and 3 more with additional parts/hopups. The Tamiya site claims the truck comes without radio etc, but Hobbies Australia claimed it comes WITH radio but no battery/charger? :/
Guess I will have to wait and see.

those video clips are sooooo shit makes it just look like a made in china toy on a track .
For those that dont understand , these trucks are off road masters and thats what the video clip should be of being taking it off road in terms of shrub / water / rocks .
Tamiya should be embaressed to use those clips on their website and im sure the original bruiser owners here will agree with me 100000% .

do you guys reckon these will be as big as the Bruiser in about 20 years or is this old Tamiya classics collectables just finished .
In saying this , im buying 2 anyway over the next 6 months , 1 for the play and 1 for the shelf queen and i say this cause ive got 2 Bruisers and my first is ****ed and in bits and cut and totally non original ( who knew they were going to be so valuable when you were only 12 ) and the other is in great condition as its slowly being restored .
Chucky , its probably too late but would love to see some progress pix as your assembling it as im sure everyone here is interested .
How long till they hit Aus and will be in the local hobby shops ... anyone ?

Bev,
Raneye Systems
Give them a call on 03 56724774 and ask for Aaron, when I spoke to him tonight he said the rep was telling him how it was so quiet and basically noone had ordered them and then late last week half their shipment was gone :) So you'll have to get in quick and get him to see if the supplier has any stock left. Most hobby shops havent even heard of this kit so your chances are probably good :)
They are located in Wonthaggi, Victoria, but have lots of interstate customers and he is pretty quick with the shipping :)

reddy , i actually agree with you 100% on that , i didnt realise it came with bushes , great call and something thats great we know cause now potential buyers like myself looking forward to the excitement of the all nighter build can pick up a set of bearings when we get the truck so we dont get the same dissapointment .

Redrum
06-10-2006, 07:54 AM
I heard a rumor of three different versions, but the manual/box etc calls them "Metal bearings" (trick name for bushings) They refer to ball bearings as ball bearings :)
Ha Bev
This is where I pre ordered but I got it for $300 US with ball bearing kit.
http://www.stellamodels.net/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=2592 Cost me $499 AUD to my door and took 9 days

Just out of curiosity why do you thing you kit came from HOBBIES AUSTRALIA. To start with Toy Traders are the Australian distributors of Tamiya and http://www.raneye.com.au/ list other Tamiya kits that are not imported into Australia. I would have thought that they have parallel imported this from the US

haha RB ... Well I built the gearbox while watching rove, took like 2 pictures... the gearbox shafts seem to have ALOT of play, will probably have to tear it down and shim it up, its too much play for my liking... Chucky, did you notice the same thing, or is yours still in its box? :D
chucky06
10-10-2006, 11:49 PM
Red....inoticed some play but the box is identical to my semi's and they need the play in them apparently. Mines all together but got some issues.
For starters,
1. my wheels i bought for it arent stepped out enough and they rub on the steering linkages.
2. The diffs feel very tight.
3. The springs are to hard. I fixed this one by only using the 2 shortest leaves and not putting the coil springs in the shocks.
I will be pulling out the diffs and checking them tomorrow.
And last, the curved steering arm touches the dome nut on the diff.
Pics to follow.

That looks AWESOME.
Looking at the body from the side shots it almost looks like the original Hilux body.
It says on the Tamiya webpage about running 2 leaf springs for soft and 5 leaf springs for hard.
Are the difflocks engaged on the diffs? This could cause the tension
So how long before one of you guys does away with the leaf setup and mods it for a link setup?
Cheers
chucky06
11-10-2006, 12:33 AM
RC Nuts... It does say that but even running just the main leaf its still abit hard, if you take out the coils in the shocks it makes it soooo much better to set up. And no the diff arent locked yet, was trying it without for starters but they still seem tight. will work it out tomorrow and post wat i find.
Already looking at doing a two bar swing arm setup. shouldnt be that hard by the look of it.

If anyone wants a few super bright led's made up for the spot lights and headlights the missus is good at making them. The ones we get are 5mm 16,000 or 18,000 mcd clear/white and 5mm 5000 mcd clear red for the tail lights and we can also get 3mm led's. I had 4 of them in the front of my Bullhead body just to try out and they did a good job of putting my real cars low beam to shame, they were blinding to look at and I would hate to look at the 40,000 mcd ones.
How many places are there on the Highlift for lights?
Cheers
chucky06
11-10-2006, 06:48 PM
Lights? theres about 5 million places for lights.....well maybe not quiet. There is low beam/hi beam on plus 2 spots for front indicators on each side on the front. 5 roof lights and park/tail lights and indicators on rear.

Update... as we all know, this truck is for offroading but after the maiden voyage garden crawling i found two things.
They are :
1. The diffs need to be locked because,
2. No matter how soft you get the suspension the wheels will come off the ground.
!rant !smack !rant
Make that three,
3. If the diffs arent locked, the first bit of soft sand you hit off centre will just get you digging holes!!!
[ Edited Sun Oct 15 2006, 05:05PM ]
Redrum
15-10-2006, 10:11 PM
Hey chucky, I dont have any problems with the suspension.. though if I torqued up the motor i'm sure I'd bugger the leafs like others have already with axle torque twist, see how you've got three leafs per corner? take the top leaf off and put the small bottom one on the top instead (leaving you with only two, the main leaf plus the smallest on top). My truck when sitting on its wheels sinks down a TINY bit with its own weight but flexes very nicely when crawling over objects, It even kind of feels like its a scale weight with how the suspension behaves :) (Oh, I am also not running coils in the shocks). It would DEFINATELY bottom out on any kind of jump, but I dont want it for jumping :)
chucky06
16-10-2006, 06:34 PM
Yo Red, was gunna do that but after reading the thread on RCCrawler i was worried about bending springs. I will give it a go but first i gunna make a traction bar i think.

Yeah I saw that a while back, I dont know what they were doing to mangle the leafs like that... if and when I do some serious crawling action with it I'd probably put the bar on to stop the twist.... but the asthetics of it kills me :) Let me know what you think of it with the two leaf setup, its seriously soft :D

Yes this thing looks like a right mess right now, playing around with the jugg body... I had to cut the wheelarches to match the high-lift body (same body but different).
Made a template from the High-lift F350 body and traced roughly onto Jugg body

Cutting out wheelarch roughly

After cleaning up with a knife.

Quick coat of gunmetal grey (Which was a disaster (for testing purposes of course)) + the TLT-1 Max Climber wheels (same diameter tires)...
