Ahoy,
Last week a few of us guys spoke to one of the lads who runs the Ashfield RC track. We asked him about drifting on the circuit and he said it should be fine, They will run it like its a class of racing(Not actually run it but give us a time slot to do our thing).
They meet every second sunday and its $100/pa to be a member, we would get our own slot during the day for drifting and he said it might be an idea if we come down this sunday(04/02/05) to have a look at how its run and possibly put on a demonstration.
If your keen to come down for a look this sunday let us know here and we can meet up before-hand and go down as a group. The track is mint and it would be so much better than drifting in carparks.
Unlike Ryper Hobbies they seemed to have no worries with using PVC/ABS/POLY Tyres. The track is also permanent with grass and ripple strips. So bring your car as they may want us to do a demo(aka free track time)

very interesting. i dont think i've seen this track. Unless it's the massive one they do nitro on-road on, with banks and stuff.. awesome.
address of track?

Yeah its the big ass track next door to AFARCC and probably something to remember also Jack is the guy said they wouldnt entertain a huge (eg.40+) contingent of drifters as it would take up too much time out of their normal program so if you want to come and demo maybe we should make a list of enthusiasts and draw maybe 6 - 8 ppl to participate...
only a sugestion but i just dont want the oppertunity to be ruined right from the word go.. this could become one of the first successfull drift catagories in WA on what i consider the best venue for it.... it way out does Ryper for drift..
Cheers

I dont have an electric drifter anymore, but I'll be happy to come down with my RR Evo, and if anyone thinks they can drift it well, whack your drift tyres on and go for it :P

definately. You have to remember Ryper is a technical 1/10th race track, not large, simple track.. :)

true that james but i think the ashfield track is better suited as it has a different surface thats kind of smooth bitumen with out the agregate like normal asphault so it tends to let longer drifts be possible with more control...... oh and by the way jackand i have a new compound drift tyre that at the moment is shaping up better than the poly ones i was making and they are actually wear resistant to a high degree so they should last 10 times longer than abs, pvc or poly....
ill keep u all updated through the testing process
cheers

Hey Ross, Dave here, I just got my ABS today so next time we drift I might actually be able to go straight. I agree that ashfield is a better track than Ryper but I don't think either will be accessable to us, I guess it's time we make out own track. !lmao

here we go again. it's not a better track as such, it's a different track. Isnt ashfield a 1/8th on-road track usually for nitro? Ryper is a 1/10 elec track only, and is a technical track. Ryper's track must be good if they are holding the 'states' there in two weeks.
not trying to defend anyone here, but there's a difference between these tracks. I think you meant to say that ashfield is a better drift track... absolutely, no question. considerably faster too.. seen it in full swing? DAMN !lmao

I guess it depends on what you are using it for, for drifting ashfield is much better. obviously you can't run nitro at Ryper because it is too small. BTW ahsfield is a much better built track with ripple strips and grass surrounding it, it's not as easy to hit anything if you come off. Don't get me wrong I like Ryper but this is about drifting and Ashfield is so much better for that.

yes ashfield is very good for drift. but the atmosphere there is too intense.
the last thing i need is some kids angry dad maiking his kid cry and then flippin his lid cause we r wasting his track time
we r about fun and ashfield is about the last track in WA where we might be able to have any.
also i have all eps of oc up to series 2 ep10 for now
pm me if u still want dave

I agree James ..... Ryper is a technical track not really suitable for drift its very tight ...even when i had rubbers on the damn thing was all over the place but i guess thats due to my inexperience with RC as this is the first time ive tried and i went straight for the drift..
Ashfield is built for both 1/10th and 1/8th nitro's.. the latter of the 2 seems more at home on that track.....Man were they PISSIN last sunday... anyhow the track itself is very kind to drift due to the fact its largeand is a defined circuit with ripple strips and gress in between not painted on a surface ...and speeking from my own preferences it makes u concentrate more rather than having in the back of ya mind "well if i skid out the lines i can keep goin" you dont get to keep going ...its a bit hard to drift on grass!!!!...
not to mention the very different surface from ryper... seem to have alot more control especially now with the Polyurathane wheels....
i can only dream of being allowed to run another day at Ashfield for Drift only.... wouldnt that be just sweet... !amazed !amazed
