Is it just me or do other people get annoyed by the lack of ability to go to the next page of a multipage thread from the bottom of the page.
You scroll down the thread then at the bottom , you have to scroll all the way back up to click on the next page.

i dont scroll all the way to the top to click the next page number, i click "Back to Top" which is a link that sits juuuust below the box which the avatar appears in....

OK didnt see that but it is not intuitive compared to other forums..plus that would be two clicks. First to go to top and then secod to select next page

It's not a big deal but I'm sure it's easily improved.

I had a quick look at the code last night, but was easily distracted by "the mummy" on telly, and my girl :) sooo... I'll look at it again soon. it's low priority

Man I hate it when people complain about websites....Is there any reason why this site seems to take quite a while to load up compared to most others?
James

only takes a short time on my link?...
we may be moving the site to a faster server /link at some stage...
im browsing from work, and the speed is good here too.

I dunno....I've only got 512k broadband, and I'm downloading stuff 24/7, but in comparison to almost every other website I visit, this one seems to be noticably slower. And yeah, it does hang on one page for ages sometimes, but a refresh fixes that.

Actually, I think it's not too bad, I can read stuff pretty quickly, but the page seems to always be loading something. Icons take a while. Maybe it's all in my head....
just out of interest, do you use a proxy server?

proxy server? I don't think so....

Mines running very very slow lately , about 30 seconds to refresh a page and im on cable which ussually does it in under 5 seconds ..
Ive just downloaded some updates this week for XP and its been sluggish since on this website so i naturally thought it was cause of the update but if everyones having a few issues , that exlains my coincidence .
justo316 - what browser do you use mate? the "always loading something" got my attention.
i browse this site from work, i use internet explorer. we have a proxy server here so the commonly used items (the logo, the blue borders, all that) dont get downloaded on each new page. however, all browsers should have some form of cache that should stop the gfx from being reloaded each time. hmm.
it is something we will have to look into as some are experiencing lag, some are reporting its quite fine.
like james said, we are looking at moving it to a dedicated server but it always comes down to money. we dont make money from this site so it would be from our own pocket.
if anyone here runs a business that would benefit from having an advert banner on the page, feel free to contact us to make an arrangement. the money from it will go straight back into team adrenaline with site hosting being a key priority
send a PM to james or myself if you want to sponser us.

im using IE 6. "always loading something" is just that some of the icons and stuff get loaded to the page last. But, after using the site a lot today, I still think that overall, it takes longer to load than most sites. Maybe cos it's getting a lot of stuff from a database and that's slowing it down?
Another problem is I was trying to upload some photos, but it kept coming up an error. I managed to get two of them up by trial and error.

I probably should have used different wording on the original thread as overall this website is quite good / unique in its layout etc.... The page GOTO at the bottom is just something I am used to on all the other forums I frequent....thats why I made the original post.
AS for speed I find it OK. Connected at work on 2Mb connection and its fine ( No Proxy ). Connect with Proxy (Linux ) at work still OK. Connect at home 1500k ADSL also OK.
There are some graphics boxes that take a bit longer to render but it doesnt stop me coming here

looks like the CSS isn't loading properly. If you f5 the page, it should fix it up.

The site will be moved onto a dedicated server soon enough, however the link speed will not be improved at this stage, at least not unless major sponsorship comes along.
We're considering adding some member services to the site, such as email accounts or redirections (for a fee), member web space, and other membery type of stuff... will see. might "poll" on the idea's.
some good things to come ! :)

Just bumping this thread, because today I've fixed/changed some things that were requested/noticed.
In the forum the user's "LOCATION" is now displayed, sure beats asking people where they are from. Can you please ensure your "location" in your user settings/profile is correct...
I've also added functionality that was requested some time ago... "prev / next" page option that is at the top of each forum page, is now also at the BOTTOM! as requested. I guess some people were too slack to click on "back to top" to use this feature.. so I've thrown it in the bottom for you!
just required a bit of code hacking...

Just wondering if anyone's noticed that sometimes the forum highlights new posts that you've already read?
James

havent had that prob... hrmm
justo316

Maybe I only notice it cos I'm on this site the most? :P
When it happens, it tends to happen after something has changed, like I post something new, or someone else does. So when I refresh, it recognises the new post/s but it "forgets" that I've already read some of the other ones so it highlights them again.
It's no big deal at all, especially if no one else experiences it. I just get all excited about getting to read something new, but then am bitterly dissappointed when it isn't :(

Just updating incase anyone else cares....the site likes to forget what posts I've read after someone posts something in the CHATBOX.
