Hi all .

Got a bit of an idea brewing for the large scale guys here ( eg bajas , FJ , travelers )

What would the market be like for 1:5 scale fiberglass bodies . Im talking monster trucks , Hummers , X5s , like the big tough stuff .

Considering a lexan shell is $300 to buy roughly , would there be a market for some fiberglass shells or not available range of bodies at about $350 - $400 sprayed in any colour the customer wants and im talking Acrylic with as many coats of gloss to make it a mirror reflective finish .

I need a new business venture so opinions would be greatly appreciated .

Y not lexan ?? More durable than fiberglass isnt it ?? & Fiberglass would be way heavyier I think ??

Have you seen the 2D cards that you get out of breakfast packets....Now that would be awsome ,look at your shell from one direction & then another & have 2 compleatly different styles......Buisness cards are also made out ov this Lexan ,avalible in the US . B)

lol , im not that ingenious on the 2d cars , infact im so non ingenious that i cant even spell it .. lol .

Fiberglass works allot easier for me as its what i was brought up with , lexan could be ok but then id need a machine to do it which cost big $

Start with a fiberglass as your mould then get the Lexan heat wrapped over the fibergalss .....Lots of places do the heat wrap thing :)

Vacuforming is how standard PC bodies are made anyway. Once you had a fibreglass master, building a vacuform rig would be reasonably cheap. Few heatlamps, a vacuum, a wooden frame... quite doable.

KB is right on the money :) this is very cheap & yes the bodyies come out clear no smokie look to them at all.
I have seen it done on that 2d Lexan but it was 2 expensive on a standard 1/10 body ,the body looked Awsome & the process was very easy. :)
