Hey people!
Well as some of you may know I am getting INTO electric touring and getting OUT of nitro buggies.
Anyway thought it would be neat to start a thread to track my progress of building the car up into a semi-competetive tourer.

Ok Well a couple of weeks ago I bought a second hand Xray fk04 from Dan (Sly33).
Pics will be followed.
Currently I only have the rolling chassis.
I need to purchase the following so I can race competitivly:
- Radio System.
- Batteries
- Charger
- Power Supply
- Brushless System
The task is to get everything bought for under $1000 (excluding the fk04 chassis) although the more I look into it the more I think im going to struggle to get everything bought for that price haha..guess thats always the case..
Pictures of the FK04:

The other day I also bought a new Spintec battery manager off ebay, which is pretty odd considering I havent bought any decent packs yet..bought it because you dont see them come up to often on ebay.com.AU and I got it cheap so it doesnt bother me. Bought that for $90. Didnt factor that into my budget so that already puts me out haha.

brushless will instantly set you back roughly 450-500 bucks. good charger is round 100-150. batteries are around 70-105 depending on voltage. power supply is round 100-200 depending on how many amps you want it to handle. radio system, depends what your after, can range from 90-500.

Very true rex.
I am planning to get a Novak 4.5 or 5.5 system which will set me back $450. Although I will have to sell my buggy before I can get this system haha...anyone wanna buy a 1/8 buggy? Check the Classifieds for more info :P
Im going to start off with only a couple of new Harris matched packs first off and then before I actually start to race ill buy a couple more, so that should set me back around $200 for both packs...
For the radio im looking at either the JR XS3 or Futaba 3PM..I can get either of those systems for around $220..
For the charger I think the Swallow Advance will do me just fine..my LHS stocks it and ive heard nothing but positive reviews about it..its cheap and fits my budget..
And for a power supply I think ill get that 20A one from Jaycar that was bought by a few people on here through a group buy a while ago...people ive spoken too have said its doing them fine. So that will cost around $100..
If anyone can reccomend anything on any pieces of equipment or give me some advice I would greatly appeciate it as this is kinda what this thread is about..
Ill record everything I buy with pics along the way..

great thread! you can easily do it on the cheap...
firstly, that FK04 is fast. damn fast. Dan made that thing MOVE. great car, great balance, and of course, XRAY quality. well done...
get the jaycar PSU.. if your going to race mod (brushless) dont get matched packs, just get some 4200's from harris, not matched. stock on the other hand in my opinion requires matched packs for the 'edge'.
2 packs wont cut it, you need 4 or 5 or more. I have 5 and do all my racing on them.
if your new to tourers, I would definately NOT race mod, I'd go stock straight up.. even stock you will find is a handful on the track without the skills to go with it....
this is going to be an adventure, be sure to check out the team xray web site and forum for information!

Thanks James! Yes I totally agree with you about racing experience..I think I might take one of my mates cheaper tourers and run stock for a while and move up when I feel ready..or just run stock for a while with the TK04. But why do you suggest using un-matched 4200 packs with brushless?

Because you don't need superhigh voltage for mod. I have five packs and four are 1 year old unmatched packs and are still competitive.

Ahhh ok...looks like un-matched packs it is..
Also - for those who are interested. I have just added a listing to ebay for a near new "NOVAMAX MAXPOWER MODIFIED MX21 XR CERAMIC Turbo Engine" which has been tuned by "Massimo Fantini" himself. I dont know 2 much about the engine haha im just selling it for a mate on my ebay account as he is an ebay "newb".
This engine goes hard..real hard. Retails for a massive $650 USD!! Check it out "ya'll"~!
