Hi All,
I just bought a rc car. Put in my new 17 turn motor. I noticed a lot of sparks flying from the motor, also makes loud crackling sounds and wires get very hot after only 20 seconds of driving in cool conditions. Speed contol gets hot too. Is this normal?

not familiar with that speedy, however there should always be small sparks between brushes and commutator, how bigger sparks are we taling here?
I would suggest taking it tou your LHS and showing them how bigger sparks and see if they have any suggestions it is hard with out seeing the sparks in person. If your in Perth bring it to PHC i will hav e a look if you want

Did the motor come with the capacitors installed, if not put them on and that should help a little.

Did you run the motor in before putting it in the car. Sometimes with brand new motors the brushes need to be seated onto the comm before running the motor under a load. I think the normal way of doing it is to apply about 2 - volts volts to the motor with no load for 5 minutes during which time it can get warm and can become hot.

This sounds like what your motor is doing.

Hardwire the motor to the speedy, sometimes those little plastic bullet connectors get rather hot and they just rob you of power anyway

I was going by what it says in the instructions for one of my team orion motors, 2V for 5mins.

I'm sure there are different values that each manuafacturer recommends but I was just try to generalise.

I wonder what Novak recommend for their brushless motors &|

u dont need to run the brushless motors in because there is no brush or com to run in.anyways yeh u r right, some manufactures may say to run the motor in for differnet times at differnet voltage.

come to think of it,is there any thing coming out of the motor when its running.u may have cooked the motor and the wires from the arm, ature may be coming lose...

we can all speculate based on interpretations on what is written here....

Take some photos of the motor, better yet. take it back to the shop you bought it from and get the pro to diagnose it.
