Greetings guys
Looking at getting into some road/carpet racing this year and was enquiring about what would be a good starter car, I've had some experience with off road buggy racing so a buildable kit that has some tuning options would be great. Would like to keep the initial expenditure under the $350 preferably $300 mark. I have a Few batterys, FM Radio, ESC and the standard gear that will come across from my buggy. I've been looking at either the TA-05, xxx-s sport, Cyclone-S and a XRAY FK-04 (this is for sale in the classifieds). Just wondering on availibility of parts and general recommendations, also if there are any other types you would recommend or even up for sale...
Thanks in advance

If you can get the battery strap that converts the FK04 to run standard packs (I believe Stormer Hobbies has it) then I'd go for that one. I have an FK05 and have had a XXX-S and a TA-05, it's no competition, the X-Ray is a FAR better car.

Thanks Nexxus for the quick reply, yeah I thought the Xray would be the stand-alone winner out of that group but I'm still waiting for a reply from the seller. If I don't get a response soon or it has been sold what would be the next model out of that group??? the TA-05 seems to be a popular model. Why are you (Nexxus) getting rid of the RDX?
Cheers

it just needs a couple of bits, and as I run an FK05 now, I can't be bothered! Plus I wouldn't mind playing offroad a bit

I'd go either the TA-05 or Xray. I would rank the TA-05 as better for a beginner however both would suit you fine.

Thanks again guys, ended up buying a TA-05 today and have almost completed construction a few tweeks and the body posts need to go on and it'll be a workin chassis. Found out my old ESC (Novak Tomahawk) is a bees dick to big to fit in the chassis so tomorrow I'll have to find a jury-rig to get it to work if not its back to the LHS. As i'm going to race just novice stock this season so a tamiya sports tuned will all I'll have to alow for what would be a good small ESC to suit???

Hi kaff welcome to the forums.
Will be great to have another on roader in WA, the most popular and the most fun wouldbe had at ryper hobbies at Bibra Lake, there is also carpet racing thats run on a tuesday night however i like ryper more, racing starts sundays at 1pm. The xrays do tend to be more popular and the fko4, well as annoying as it is i would keep the battery pack config the way it is, awesome balance! but is very frustrating sometimes getting the packs in and i dont know how the 4200mah packs would go fittin in the fk04. I think you have made a great decision in the ta05 great car to start with and have seen some great write ups on the cars.
Good luck and hope to see you racing it soon!
The futabe mcr 3200 blah blah (that means i have no idea what number it is) are for sale at ryper hobbies i thiiiink there about $80 and great value for money DAVE who works there can show you which one as it is quite a popular choice aswell, i had sometime ago the novak xrs sports reversible its another step up but a lot more expensive ($120) but certainly did do the trick in 540 class.
i would go 110% with the cyclone.
The hotbodies stuff gets a bad rep in PErth for some reason maybe due to the high importing costs.
But the one kit that has stayed low is the cyclone S
I built one the other day and i must say very impressed.
From just building it i beleive it would blow a TA-05, XXX-s and give an xray and extremely good race for its money.
The cyclone S is unreal car.

Totally with M.J on that. The Cyclone S is a great car. For the price its hard to beat.
It is afterall based on the current world championship winning car. And everything is upgradeable. So as you get better or break something you can fit the full spec bits.
The TA-05 is a very good car though and you will enjoy it
