ps....was speaking to a local hobby shop..hes in the middle of negotiating a deal with the disributor..
HPI BAJA 5B for the insane price of $1000- $1100...
Nothings been set in concrete just yet but he stated that they can buy them at around $900 and felt a $600 profit on 1 truck was a little extreme...
Ill keep you updated..

if any lhs sells a baja for 1000 or 1100 after buying them for 900 they are the biggest dumb ass around they will go broke your not making any money selling them for that

It would bring alot of people into the shop though :)

i don't reckon you would even sell 15% more bajas for that price than shops already are at the current price and i don't think it would get that many more people in a shop imho
t4 are you high? 5to 600 dollars cheaper for something, goes to show how much shops put on top of what they pay for it. thats a bargain in anybodies language. two local shops combined that i know of have sold nearly 70 bajas, bring on the bargains''''''
it would be horrible to have one delivered from the east, and for it to be cactus and need to go back for warranty or repair. imagine the extra shipping costs. mmmMMMmmm
I buy ALL my shit local. if something goes wrong, i get in my car and drive to see the bloke i bought it from and have him sort it out.
just a thought, carry on boys.
If somthing goes wrong you pull it out and send that part back and not the whole thing. Also HPI dont like to bother with waranty stuff in aust as I found out with my baja so your on your own if a part breaks on the baja. Also unless its DOA you should be able to take any waranty claims to any LHS that deals with HPI but in saying that most will want to not deal with it.
I dont know of any shop that will deal with a product's warranty claims (and without proof of purchase) that was not bought through that particular shop in the first place.
in fact, i think that goes with just about anything under the sun??
the baja sells as a RTR. its a complete kit. like any warranty, once the owner starts tinkering and take it out of a RTR status... by adding bits, changing parts, the warranty is void.

if im spending those dollars , id prefer to buy local BUT .... i think online shopping is 1 of the best things to have come in cause it can also keep the LHS honest on their markup and when i say this i give leaway for overheads to a point but if theres like more than 30% difference in the price , ill make them aware and give them the option of a good discount before handing over my cash .
RB, u and i both know that 30% is nothing in the retail industry...
clothing and fashion? try 300%

I buy alot of BMX and motorcross shirts on-line.
When they are talking $10 for the exact shirt (not a rip off thing, the ctual same shirt) that costs $60-$80 in perth, it's worth doing.
10 for the shirt.. and how much for shipping?

I think I got around 25 over for $20US.
EDIT: It cost me $20 extra shipping over the price of getting $2000US worth or bike parts over.

Hey shadow , i dont think there actually is too much mark up on RC ( eg cost $50 , sell $85 inc GST ) , i just think we get the short end of the stick in terms of postage to get the stuff to Australia ... but then again Model Engines owns the manopoly down here and are the MOST EXPENSIVE people ive ever dealt with and let me tell you that the imports and ebay have hit them hard with a reality check .
once again bring on the bargains.

if you guys think a lhs buying a baja for around the $1100 mark and selling it for $1650ish is to high mark up grab your calclulator out and add 10% to the 1100 for the gst plus $80 for each baja we used to pay to get them shipped to PHC and then tell me how much money where making you all have no idea if you think LHS are making a fortune, yer sure fast monkey can do them cheap but where is he probably in a similar area to malage or something like that with 4 concreate walls, no wages bill, no rent, one phone that probably doubles as a fax and how much stock does he actually hold?? maybe $100,000 at worst?

In the end it's best to support your local hobby shop, cause if they don't sell and go out of business it's only gonna be bad for business. Sure online is great, but I lolve hobby shops, you can go there and look around and physically see what your buying, not just trusting someone on another keyboard somewhere.
