Best quote from the article:
"Taking the TrakPower LiPo to a race meeting, particularly a relaxed club meeting, which all three races I attended with the pack were - is a revelation. Why take 4 or 5 packs of cells into the meeting when you can take just one!"

are not they dangerous to use at the track though?
everytime i walk into a hobby shop they have signs talking about the safety of LiPo batteries like if u drop them they will explode of something
nothing in the world is safe in the hands of fools. not even a cabbage.

Shadow that is the funniest thing I have read all week.

Yes if mistreated a LiPo can explode.
So can a NiCd, or a NiMh cell.
Of the 3, it's only a NiMh cell i've ever actually seen explode, at last years offroad nats.

No, it exploded in it's case, just sitting there after charging.

Can anyone tell me what sort of runtime could you expect out of one ??? for stock/19turn.
Anyone have any idea where you could get one in Perth and a rough price.
Cheers

Until you know how to drive, don't buy one.
Yes they are great, and i believe Perth Hobby Centre stocks them, but after running a LiPo myself, i can tell you it dramatically changes the performance and handling of your car.
The lower weight means less traction and steering, the higher power means it's easier to spin the wheels and again lose traction. The weight difference also means your suspension will need to be changed as the roll characteristics will change.
Basically it will handle way different.
Until you know how to properly drive, and setup your car, i wouldn't buy one. Thats one of the reasons i sold mine, it made the handling of my car too unpredictable.
On the flipside, as far as batteries go they are easier to maintain, no worries about memory effect or taking a charge etc. They last longer, and deliver more power for longer. BUT you also need a LiPo compatible charger.

don't quote me but think Perth RC have them for around $170
well sprocket, unfortunately you have outwitted yourself. You have but given us an oxymoron. by the very fact that you have "typed" it in your post, you have in fact quoted yourself . !lol

Another thing for people interested in buying a lipo battery, it may be good to get a LVD (low voltage detector) or LVC (low voltage cutoff) so that you know once your battery has dropped too the safe voltage where you should stop running it.
They are really cheap and if I ran lipo I would definately get one.

a decent speedie should do that.

hmm, maybe i should start storing mine in a metal case away from the rest of the rc stuff

kb i disagree the lighter batteries are better as that means you can get a lot closer to the weight limit and if needed add lead weight where you want it in the chassis rather than have a heavy lump of lead down the middle.

Which proves my point about needing to know how to properly setup and drive the car first.

i would still buy them first, no point buying Nimh packs to sell them to buy li-pos in a couple of months

i dont think you would have a problem with metal if your batteries have a decent plug on them.
only problem i can see if you have bare wire exposed and store them. and then your in different league of moron alltogether

if u r talking bout lipos obzelite than u r right but the nimh and nicd cells run battery bars thus being the same as running bear batterys,i have seen cases,(myself included)where batterys have even be half caught on fire by a carbon fibre chassis.

Mmmmm,LiiPoooow.
Go the LiPo revolution!!!we buggy racer's are only WAY BEHIND the electric planes.
When are we going too see Race legality?!!???!@@!#^%$ for#$%&#sake.
Im dumbfounded as too why the powers that be would impose a rule too ban LiPo,and some Brushless systems from compeeting in interclub's,states, nat's.
Why would the governing body dicorage the future development of latest tech!?!
I just hope we dont go all limp wristed and run four cells,FFS.

i reckon they should just come up with a new class being speed classes , have a stock max 40kph class , a max 60kph class and so forth .
For the money people spend on their RC , $120 for a bushnell radar gun will be a little price to pay to keep your speed honest .
Anyway , i know this is a stupid ask but this is the only fair way to handle all the new battery motor combos and although it sounds impossible to govern , in this day and age of GPS and transponders , why cant that relay info back to a PC with top speed and if you go over speed , you get penalised .
Just a thought .

Na,I recon that would be a pain in the arse,we have Stock and Mod classes to keep it even.As far as off road is concerned,I think MOD,should mean just that!!MODIFIED.A LiPo can be as much a dissadvantage as an advantage.
This shit is as bad as the oil company's buying all the paitent's for more efficiant internal combustion engine's over the last 20 odd year's.Imagine where we would be in the auto industry if they could'nt do that!you could bet your sweet arse we'd be driving 1 liter comodores, instead of 3.8 liter V6's.AND we would most likkley have been driving electric car's a long time befor now.

reckon your right Stoney re regulations holding back technology, go watch any of the guys flying serious gliders, planes and helis and ask what they are using. My brother pylon races gliders and proper comp regs, they all using lipos for the incredible power you can draw, the reduced weight and the sustained output. These guys use some serious gear and all regulation approved lipos.
Stoney you seen that "who killed the electric car doco"??
