Looking for info, pointers, suggestions, the good, the bad and the ugly on the Mamba Max setup. I'll be running it with my xxxt.

I know the motors are not legal for sanctioned events but there is suppose to be a update coming soon (even though "soon" for Castle Creations usually means a year.... or two) so their Mamba Max speed controllers will run sensored motors.

Anyone running one for 2WD offroad that can give me their expiriences??

I was just going to order the 5700 since I have been ummming and ahhing (and waiting for the go ahead with the sensored update) about this for a couple of months now but I dont want something that is going to be undrivable.

i know of two mamba maxs that have died, well cogging real bad.
one in a xxxt and one in a buggy.
you basically wont ever be able to use the power at west coast effectively, and when u do try to use it something is going to get broken. I believe sprocket can attest to a mamba max at full song, a xxxt and a fence post when things go wrong.

hey nuts .

Im 1 of the 2 i think Obz is talking about . I had a mamba 7700 , **** this thing was fast , responsive and efficient but i killed it when i put it into my 1:6 scale Schumacher . I geared it down massively but still gave way , the magnets exploded but ..... what i will tell you is that the warranty didnt even ask questions , i was sent another 1 straight away at no expense ( from Bishops in fact ) .

nope, u would be 3.

yeah, as far as i can tell, the warranty is good. The buggy guy is getting a new motor direct. xxxt(radium) got his from harris so it may take longer, but i still think he will have no problems as both motors are less than 2 months old and really haven't seen any abuse.

Yep thats what I have heard from many people about the warranty.

The main factors for wanting to going with the Mamba is the lack of thermaling problems, the future update so they can run sensored motors and the ability to program the perimiters from a computer.

My main concern for me is if the 5700 will be to much power for the WC track. On the other hand I suspect the 4600 will be have way to much torque so I'm kinda torn between the 2 motor setups.

The only cogging issues I've read about are from people that have been running to much timing and punch control. Another thing that is suppose to help with cogging it adjusting the voltage cutoff even for NiMh packs.

How do you find the Novak 3.5 setup in your XXXT obzELiTe??

I belive obz's 3.5 would be more like a 8k mamba, way too much power to deal with on a track, but you can tone it down of coarse.

I went for the 4.5 LRP,bloody thing would light the slipper up the whole length of the straight, and still be spinning the wheels the whole length too.

So I went for the 6.5 next, much better. With the punch set at 3 out of 6,it's still a hand full but much better to drive but.

Which ever one you pick dude, your gunna have too turn the power down.

the 3.5 is way to much, its great fun for bashing if you don't mind the damage, my transmitter has the throttle limited to 50% and its still a little too much for wc. i can clear any of the jumps with ease, but traction is still a major issue.

Thats what I like to read obzELiTe. I will be putting the MM in my Stampede for bashing and if I'm still not satisfied I will buy another MM combo and put them both in my Clod crawler and bring it down to WC to show those Emaxx boys what they've been missing out on. :) I cant remember where I have seen this done before but it was insane and talk about tyre ballooning.

Seriously though, thanks for the input guys. It sounds like it doesnt really matter which motor I go for I'm going to have more power than I need.

BTW do the brushless setups come with shares in one of the tyres manufacturers because it sounds like I might need it.

I'm one with a dead engine.

been running it fine for 2months or so, not a single issue with it. but then i upgraded it to firmware v1.09 and that night i got F*** all use out of a battery and thought i didnt charge it properly or grabbed the wrong one. put another in and it was fine so i put it down to the battery.

raced the final on a friday and it was fine, after the race i went and grabbed another battery for the bashing/hack session and it didnt want to work. jerking around everywhere. still need to contact castle and see what the go is regarding warranty/replacement. but like obz said another friend had the same issue and they said they were going to send one out to him right away, no questions asked!

but these things are waaaaaaaaaaaay more powerful than the novak systems and have to be toned way down to use properly on a track. damn thing tore a drive shaft in half :)

With v1.09 I have read of a few people who saw it is dodgy.

apparnetly if you re-install the old version it fixed the ESC problems.

yeah i've downgraded it back to 1.07 and it still has the issue. i just dropped them an email and await their response.

my mate who sent his engine off a few weeks back just received his replacement yesterday free of charge and the invoice (for 0$) said it was a wiring issue inside the motor.

must be a known issue by them.

took the wires off to unsolder them from the joins and solder them directly. couldnt get them off so though F*** it and put it back together.

have run 4 packs through it no problems.

dodgy connection? who knows but it now works.
