View Full Version : Don't get the losi mini-t ball diff if you haven't already

Ok, after hearing that MIP were bad, and a few suggestions to stick with the losi, after using one today, I have to recommend fellow mini-t owners to stay away from it!

The problem is, on one side of the losi, you can just pull the outdrive out so as to access the screw that tightens the diff. However this outdrive falls out really easily.

Losi's fix is to insert a small spring that pushes against the cvd or dogbone so as to stay on.

However, on mine at least, the movement of the cvd pushing against the spring insode the outdrive is not smooth. And, depending on the angle, will barely move and thus cause the suspension to bind.

I'm gonna try sorting this problem out tonight, but if I had the chance again, I'd just get any other one piece ball diff out there instead and not have to deal with it. :(

Nah, as long as they are one piece jobs. After hearing some people weren't happy with the MIP diff, I have been hearing good things about it (namely, it's one piece).

I've heard good things about the MIP diff... everyone has their own gripes. I hear more good things about it than the Losi diff anyway...

Mine comes stock with the Losi ball diff, so I got no choice :P

How does the outdrive fall out easily if the dogbone is in it anyway? Mine hasnt got a dogbone, it has MIP CVDs, so I reckon its probably not going to fall out as easy....but I'll see how it goes :)

Nah, it falls out way easy. I got cvds too.

The cvd only reaches about halfway(less sometimes) in the outdrive. The outdrive sits real loose in the diff so all it takes is to lean the truck sideways, and the outdrive will fall out a bit, then depending on the suspension angle, it can pop out and wedge/bind/create ugly problems.

That's why they give you a couple springs. You put these in the outdrive to push against the cvd/dogbone. However, the spring just doesn't compress smoothly inside the outdrive and ......well, you''l see when you have a good look at yours....phew :P

I think they came with my cvds funnily enough. They're really small. Maybe it's an update?

I've heard of the same fix on one18th.com, just cut some spring from a pen and use that. Might actually work better if it's slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the outdrive. I think that's the problem...!

I think that the spring is almost a perfect fit, so when you compress it, it wants to expand outwards, but it has no room sometimes, and thus, gets stuck.

Pen spring is what I had in mind, its the only spring I can think of to use :P

Hey I just checked the outrdrives on my T, and it has the springs already :P

Does yours work smoothly? Try compressing the suspension after rotating the wheel at 45deg increments. I'm gonna try using a regular pen spring if it's smaller.
