Hey All,

I'm looking at getting into this wonderful world of flight.

However I'm slightly confused by all of these different types of planes availiable.

Firstly, whats the difference between:

Park Flyer
3D Park Flyer
Outdoor

But most importantly, what the best thing to start off with, I'm guessing something made of foam due to its great crash resistance; but what from there.

My local hobby store happens to have an excellent website so I was hoping you could help me by haveing a quick look and telling me what looks ok and what looks liek rubbish etc.

www.modelflight.com.au

Thanks

Olie

WHats your budget Olie .

I have put 2 people onto this plane and have actually had a fly and you cant go wrong buddy :

Park flyers are pretty much light planes that dont need too much room to fly , ussually 200 x 200 field is fine and sometimes less depending on the model .

3D Park Flyers are similar to the above but are more of a stunt plane . To see 1 they will have massive wing areas , huge rudders / ailerons and elevator . These type of planes just get thrown around in the air as if they were a butterfly flying in the wind . There are a few that can actually hover ... i think stones got 1 of those from memory from his avater .

Outdoor covers pretty much everything else , if you cant fly it inside a basketball court you take it outdoors and fly .

Cheers RB

Looking at spending about $600
But that includes Radio Gear thats expandable for when i decide to upgrade to a larger model, and also a decent charger, coming from a nitro background I dont realy have one.

Nice explanation as well. Thanks.

Having radio gear that you can take to another model is a huge bonus and thats the problem with most ready to fly park flyers.

One that I might recommend if you want a seperate radio is this: http://www.modelflight.com.au/rc_model_electric_planes/gws_j3stick.htm

It comes in two versions one as a stick and the other with a fusalage. Both come with motor and prop so all you need to supply is radio gear, servo's, speed controller and battery.

I no its a lot more money to spend initially but when or if (for me its when) you crash and you need a new plane everything can be moved to the new plane.

Both of those are Ideal to learn with mate.the only thing maybe that the first one that comes with its own 3 chanel tx,may be one of those mode 2 type tx's and apart from being diffrent to how most of us fly (not that it matters) It
has limeted aplications after that model is dead and buried.

On the other hand, the second plane, pico cub,is an indoor flyer and while it can fly outdoors it does'nt take much wind to blow it around and reduce the fun you have.

I recon get a 4-6 chanel that you can keep for years, then get a GWS slow stick.
Fly's slowly so you have time to think as you learn, but can handel a bit of wind without to much trouble.
Type slow stick into You tube n check it.

Welcom to the Pilots Lounge mate.

Fly hard,Crash hard,Get out the bin bag!!

Just watched nut's link,Ive got the full fuselage version.
Much stronger than the stick version,an better looking to boot.

This is too the bloke in the second clip,ADJUST YOUR ELEVATOR TRIM YOU FLAMIN TWIT,it made me guiddy watchen him blip the elevator 3 times a second to keep it up.

Oh I miss my little Pico CUB now, might have to do a trip out the bush to get me planes soon.

I was going to suggest the Slow Stick but Model Flight doesnt sell them. Actually not to many people in Aus sell them anymore. Thother bonus of the Slow Stick is that you can use your standard servos that come with the radio system too.

I was thinking the same thing stoney. He made my flyin look good :)

As for Radio Gear, Is it worth going for the Spektrum or stick with a regular crystal system?

Well, if you got the coin it doesnt hurt to have the latest and greatest! but if coin is short or you think you might give up trying to learn you might as well get a cheep o 4 chanel.

up to you mate.

To add to this, if you were to get the Spektrum DX6 system this can also be used with such RTF helicopters as the Twister & Blade range. So if you choose to make the change to helicopters then the radio system is "Good To Go".

I no its a little hit and miss with who's got stock but why not look at a few of the local online shops?

With the help of others suggestion, plenty of inforamtion on the net and in the various forum and youtube you can pretty much get away with doing all your shopping on the net these days.

We've just bought a radio for my dad so he can learn to fly with a more basic and easier plane than his park fly. It was pretty simple as I just emailed the shop to make sure they had stock and then ordered the radio online. The other bonus is the radio is costing $90 less than most of the local hobby shops are selling the unit for.

These guys list all of the planes we've suggested:
http://www.hobbymodelwarehouse.com.au/index1.html

Oh and your right it is pretty lame, they need to update their website to say out of stock.
