Before anyone jumps to any conclusions , yes this is a cheap chinese foamie but hold your reservations .
I FINALLY had a day today of slower than usual winds ( weve had high winds here in Vic for over 2 weeks straight and allot of rain as well ) so seeing it was still blowing a breeze it has dropped off massively from what weve had so i thought id risk a flight with a few foamies today .
Unfortunately i bought a Jumbo 747 foamie last week and couldnt wait to fly it and killed it in the VERY HIGH WINDS the day i got it . I should have known that when i throw a few blades of grass into the air and they blow about 40 meters behind me its too windy for anything to fly but im stupid so deserved it so unfortunately i cant do a review at the moment on that 747 but i will do it on this Saber as i was surprisingly impressed .
Its a 600mm wingspan ducted fan model and has quiet a bit of power for its size . Comes with fully proportional throttle and rear rudder control via cheapo right left servo thats mounted in the rear of the plane . Battery pack is a 7.4V 200mah and the charger it comes with will peak it up in under 40 minutes .
Anyway Charged the battery pack did a little test and check b4 i went to the park and all good .
Get down there and there was a bit more wind that i would have bin comfy with for flying this model due to its weight but with our weather history last few weeks i had to fly it today or i wouldnt get another chance so i hand launched it first go and it ditchd straight down with the canopie clipping off and nose full of mud so was starting to think its another pile of crap but thought id try pot luck on another launch but this time giving it a bit of a risky 45 degree launch angle and as soon as i released it , it just kept going at the angle i let it go at with no risk of a stall and we were nicely airborne .
Because there is no elevator , it uses throttle to controll its height so i backed off to about 3/4 and she leveled out .
Did my first turn on it but was very weiry of it diving so i turned to gave it some right and no dive , just a nice even turn and as it was into the turn i gave it full throttle and it come round even harder . To level out i just gave it a bit of opposite turn and she was straight again . WHen she turns its a nice 60 degree bank and looks sooo realistic .
As far as height , i got it a good 80 - 90 meters high but cause of its size and being pretty much fully white underneath it was hard to make out so just glided down a lap till it was comfortable to see and kept doing some figure eights .
Cause its not a stunt model as its only 2 channel theres not much you can do with it in terms of tricks so with these types of planes i enjoy more the low level flying when you just do laps around yourself at head height , it did these flawlessly and sounded mad with that fan spinning at high revvs passing your ears at about 1 meter away at its closes flyby point .
Come about 5 minutes the battery was near its end as i was at full throttle and it didnt have much so cause of the rudder control it was a simple full throttle glide in and to be honest with you , i didnt even touch the rudder , it just landed .
All in all , i picked it up for about $45 delivered and i can definately say its great value for money . Wouldnt say its a begginers plane as youd need some glider experience to keep it going level but anyone coming off a basic flight can fly it NP .
I bought it and a few others from the bloke below :
