Just got myself my first heli. I went for a 50 size for the extra stability over a smaller electric model.

I got the Pentara 50 (imported by twister into Aus) http://www.genesishobby.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=1

with OS 50SX Hyper, JR 770 Gyro + 8900G servo, Spektrum DX-7.

I now need to spend a few hours on the sim before I fly/crash the real one. Pictures soon.

helis are great i just sold my trex 450 i love it awesome to fly
spend as much time on the sim and you will enjoy trouble free flying with the real thing also get yourself to the heli clubs as they will help you heaps with the set up and the flying and trimming

that is an excellent heli mate , well done .

If you can afford to get into these 50 size nitros i reckon their the best to learn on as their big heavy and steady , little electrics are great but very twitchy .

Good stuff mate .

Have to agree with that statement. I started with a Raptor and it was a joy to fly. Just takes a lot of getting used to. Pitch angles and servo settings etc.

I just hated the fact that i had to have the Learner Struts under the damn thing. But boy, did they ever save you some heavy $$$. It took me about 3 months of pretty solid flying before i had the guts to take them off.

I never used the sim, but i had a great teacher at Whiteman Park when i did mine. Good luck with the flying, it is a great challenge and the feeling is superb when you master it.

Just don't get crossed over when it faces you, I did that and watched in spear into the deck. *sob*
