hmm not really sure what your after here? If you just want to take a dvd and convert it to a single avi file then thats pretty straight forward. DVD2AVI will do this for you. Any more info on what it is you are trying to do here, i.e what is the actual end result that you want?

well yeah sprocket , as i said , ive built a Home Theater PC and ive got 1000Gig in it and what i want to do is load DVDs movies onto the hard drive so i can run my own software that i have allready as a video juke box if you know what i mean .

I have a few programs for converting it off DVD to Hdd but it converts them to about 4 or 5 different folders so if i start up the movie , after 25 minutes i have to open the next file to continue it .

What i am using atm is a program called DVD decrypter but it doesnt convert it that good quality and when you project it on a 3 meter wide screen you can tell the difference instantly .

I pretty much want the best conversion that will put it all in 1 file so when i open it , it will be start to end of movie .

Ill check DVD2AVI tomorrow

ok thats a bit clearer to understand. You may be missing some key principals here. Basically if you want to have no quality loss then you do not want to compress the video at all. Most avi pgms will compress the source video so avoid these. Also be aware that the video card in the HTPC and its settings have a lot to do with the overall quality of the output, as does the quality of the projector(I assume you are using) to display on the 3 meter screen. Generally DVD decrypter does not modify the origiinal DVD video source ao its quality should be as the original. I would actually use the HTPC to play the DVD straight off the disc without any ripping of the original to HDD to see if the quality is as bad from the original DVD source. My suggestion only.
Once you are happy that the quality is expected then you can use dvd decrypter to rip the DVD and with the right settings get DVD decrypter to save out as a single file / ISO. This ISO can be mounted with say Alcohol 120% or similar for playback from the HDD file created by DVD decrypter. Hope this helps

I assume your running windows? this guide may help you on your way to rip the DVD without any quality loss.

http://www.fraggerock.com/index.php/2006/01/30/guide-to-ripping-dvd-movies-to-your-xbox-360/

you rip the dvd to disk, then convert the vobs into mpeg files (a vob is a container for mpeg so it takes about 2 seconds to convert them).

If it doesn't automatically join the movie mpg files together then there's a ton of free mpeg joiner apps out there.

OR.

If you are using media centre you can use this program/plugin which I use.,
http://www.mymovies.dk/

it does everything for you, rips, downloads imdb data and has all the nice crap so you can navigate your movie collection.

Some good info there guys .

Sproket , yeah the whole idea of putting them onto the HDD is to eliminate disks and just have the convenience of going to a menu and all the movies a virtually on demand shall we say .

As far as my projector goes well les just say i have 2 .

I have my original Sony G70 CRT projector and i also bought a Panasonic PT-AE1000E LCD about 4 momths ago .

The new panasonic is 1080 native resolution and is an excellent projector but lets just say i sold my G70 to buy this and after a side by side comparison with my original G70 ( i sold it to a friend ) i ended up buying my G70 back as their is NO comparison at this stage with a good CRT projector so yeah , i have 2 so use the G70 for movies and the LCD for video games and PC so i dont burn my tubes on the big boy
