Guys , i think im gonna buy an ipod touch but and just want to confirm 1 major thing , after having a nano , im not a fan of needing itunes to load music onto it .

Does the Touch require itunes or its own software to transfer music or can i cut and paste MP3s into it will it find them .

it uses the virus they call itunes.
there are two alternatives i know of
http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/
http://www.findleydesigns.com/

but both want money, i mite try the demo of touchcopy as i've read that it works fine. but i'm not interested in paying for it.

Hey TD , i hate itunes cause it gets complicated when you have 3 ipods ( mine wife and daughter ) and 1 PC in the house , i hate the fact you need itunes cause transfering data off it to something else is allot more complicated than just cutting a file and pasting it to something else .

I just hate stuff that controls me in the sense that i can only use their program to work it .

also i know its illegal and i dont give a rats on principles , law etc so lets not go into it but if i am at a mates place and see hes got some good music on his PC , i cant put it on my ipod cause it needs its own program to do it , if i had a normal MP3 player i just plug it into the USB , see it as an external HDD and paste the songs in there ... simple .

Does that mean you can't take songs of CD's (that you've already paid for) and just shift them to the ipod?

i installed iTunes onto my PC and it completed re-arranged the folders and sorting of my MP3's. To navigate through the directorys looking for tunes manually is a nightmare.

I removed iTunes and Im left with one messy directory and file structure.

For PC, iTunes is not good.

My opinion based on my experience with the product.

You have to be very careful with itunes. It's ok to have it as long as you don't install it.It takes over your pc....much like microsoft products.....mmm irony.Anyway do to my hatred of ipoo's I purchased this t-shirt....http://www.tshirthell.com/store/product.php?productid=910

Hey Patrik , the only way you can put your CD onto your ipod is through Itunes but in its defence its as easy as ripping it through your normal sources but like i said , just gets complicated when you allready have many many songs as you have to import them into itunes then transfer them onto ipod ... big issue for some yes , not a big issue for others .

Matt yes , it does re arrange a few things on your PC which is also a bitch .

Matt,

There is an option in iTunes where you can tell it to leave your folders of Music as they are OR let iTunes manage it. You must have had the "let iTunes manage it" option turned on so it then took over all your folders.

I use iTunes but on a Mac and think its fantastic.

Yeah your right jrs itunes on Mac is Windows MEdia Player on PC .

It probably comes accross im bagging itunes , im not , its actually good esp for podcasting but my big argument is i want an MP3 player that i dont need software to be able to upload songs to it :)

I had an iriver h340 and it was bloody Sensational , somebody else thought that to, so they stole it .....
i replace it with a creative zen sleek photo , not as good to use , and you need there software to load it ,
but for 155 for 20g ...................

another alternative i use it YamiPod.. install it on your ipod and you can add songs to it wherever you are. mates house, work.. etc.

I only use that now because I have a few computers and I can't be assed consolidating my music collection into one place. But iTunes use to work fine on my machines and did the job its suppose to do.

An option if you have 1 computer and 3 people is to have seperate accounts on the same machine!
