I use to have a mechanical speedy in my rc boat when I was like 7 years old and I could never see hoe they worked. I still have that boat and it is amazing how much the technology has advanced since then.

The pictures remind me of my tamiya super hornet that's in the cuboard. The mechanical speed control is what reminded me!!!! (Oh and bald pin spike tyres) !lol

Yeah when the mechanical speedy's didn't work, all you did was get some sand paper out and give it a clean or bend the contact arm down a little more for a better contact!!!!!

They didn't like getting dirty though!!!!

Super hornet, nah, i had the original! Threw that sucker around, loved it! When the tires were bald i added drawing pins from the inside, now that was offroad traction, and as a bonus it sounded great on a concrete drive when you spun the wheels!

For those in the know, this buggy is a Manta Ray with a different shell (and better looking shell too). The Manta Ray was released in the early 90's, from memory 1992/93.
