Yes you heard correctly , 1920 x 1080p high definition plasma / lcd could be phased out of the market in the next 5 years with the introduction of the newly released 7680 x 4320 resolution model .

Its claimed to have over 32 million pixels which means its over 10 times clearer / sharper than the best LCD / PLASMA on the market at the moment .

I dont know how they will work it out on Digital free to air as they cant transmit more than 1080p but i can see poor sonys big battle with blue Ray being a short trip as well as they will have to introduce something allot clearer again ..... laser disk sized blue ray ?????? hehe .

Meh.

My 50" plasma is still perfectly watchable as it is!

Interesting.

Ive not seen a good picture on a plasma. Its always fuzzy/hazy on the edges (look at any on screen text up close and you'll see)

However I have seen sharp pictures on even the cheap LCD TV's, very crisp.

u need a decent plasma panel, my pioneer 50" is crisp and clear. true blacks and a contrast ratio and brightness that kills an lcd

Yup, ditto mine is the Pioneer 50" too.

And any screen LCD or plasma will look crap when you look at it close up! Luckily they're not intended to be viewed from 1" away!

There is also a point where resolution is pointless, the human eye can only resolve so much anyway, and has quite a small in focus area for any given distance.

Yep , i dont want to go into the nerdy detail but videophiles worldwide agree that plasma is the best picture quality over LCD hands down .

True natural colour and movie like image which CANNOT be reproduced by LCD .

LCD picture is artificial and ONLY better for using it for PC use or watching cartoon type movies ... sorry Matt this is common fact . Shops get a better kick back on LCDs than Plasmas so they will always tune up the LCDs and turn down a few settings on a plasma ( proof is when you tell the slesman you are specifically after a plasma and he gets the remote out and plays with some user features to get it back to peak ) . 1 thing to not confuse is a side by side pixel comparison being 2 x true high def panels . Compare a Sony Bravia LCD with a Panasonic true 1080p Plasma and mate , you will see the fake picture against the natural .

On the other hand , LCD draws a quarter of the power of a Plasma , LCD is lighter , LCD is brighter so there are massive pros and cons for each .

KB ... yes you are totally correct , this new resolution is beyond our eyes perception of what we can pick up , they claim its now up with film and its stated to be IMAX quality .

Yeah I would like to get one of thoses bev. Also I get high definition tv on my computer and watch it on my high end 22cm wide screen LCD and it kicks ass.

22cm monitor? heh, that one of those old green screen CRT jobs?

I know jak about RC so will never make comments there but AV is totaly my field and its also beyond a hobby for me as i actually do calibrate these as a side business so no bullshit here blokes .

2 things , 1 : i do have a Sony Bravia KDL46XBR upstairs ( and a 60 inch " HD " plasma downstairs ) and the lcd is great but i have had it side by side to a 50 inch " FULL " High Def Panasonic ( not mine ) and apart from the brightness difference , when i play the same image off blue ray into each unit , the skin tones are noticable between them without fail .

I have colour calibrated both units to the identical colour kelvin with my spectrometer in their respective service menues and plasma takes it out .

LCD is slightly sharper but its a personal preference of sacrificing more sharpness with artificial artifacts vs a smooth moving natural picture . The reason i bought this Bravia it is used purely for gaming ( PC and video ) and this SHITS all over plasma on the digital gaming side of things .

CRT ... yes , im still old school on my projector , its a Sony G70 CRT converted to run HDMI 1080p , love it but once again not as bright as the new DLPs but totally more movie like and natural and blokes ive gone through a few digital projectors in the last couple of years .

OK rb, so then value for money what do you think is the best home projector on the market say 5k and less range?
My new house has a home theatre room in it, i already have a panasonic 50inch viera plasma which matt has not seen which i am sure will prove that plasmas are quite nice (especially whilst watching transformers in full surround sound :-) ) but am wanting a nice 95inch screen in the home thetre room. Have been looking at the infocus x10 projector which is 1080p, I have been quoted 2k for it, is that a good deal? anywhere else you would recommend to get a full setup from??

Mate , if you have 5G to play with you cannot go past the Mitsubishi HC6000 .

Shop around and crunch the dealers and you should be able to grab 1 for $4g . If you have a dedicated room thats totally dark you can run them in economy mode and they will virtually run SILENT and this mode will give you up to 5000 hours lamp life .

It is an LCD projector as apposed to the DLP on the infocus you mentioned but Mitsubishi have worked out the lcd fade problems LCDs have so the picture doesnt browny/green anymore like older ones with age .

That Infocus X10 we saw at a preview night a few months ago and it was bright mate , if lighting is a problem where your going to watch it this will be the best bet . $2G or under is a great price , anything over $2G shop around or bluff them that your going to walk out ( cash price obviously ) .

Dunno what else to tell you but ill pm you my number so if your out and about and need on the spot advice give me a call

I bought a new Samsung 46" LCD (F6, top model) not long ago, PS3, etc... blu-ray is farkin amazing on this display... I love it :)

Total spent? $3k.

Just picked up "The Water Horse" on BD last week, damn. possibly the best transfer I've ever seen. Better than the spiderman BD's hands down.
