Just to let the onroad guys know it looks very likely now that we are going to get the go ahead for a new track. Also we will be incorporating a offroad track, this will be most likely a astro turf track. I will keep people updated on a weekly basis, also need people so if your interested email me at jacsplace@iinet.net.au
an offroad astro turf track would be awesome!...cant wait!!

Just had a run down at the new site with my hot bodies tc. The surface is still in pretty good nick. Will need some tlc, there is a few weeds and cracks and debris. What will have to be done is to sweep the track and weed killer. Also might be a good idea to surface the track layout with tar or some other coating. Anyhow i am just waiting on hearing from the council today, I will try and keep people updated as soon as the information becomes available to me.
Cheers, Craig

I was told by a third party that this area is going to be used for netball again. But i have not given up, i have responded to the council to see if we can use the area until such time they have made up there minds. All that means is we have a removable track layout after each meet. If this is possible we might be able to get in there, all we need is to be able to get a foot in the door and have a presence in the area. That way we can put a bit more pressure on the council for a more permanent venue. We also need members to form a club, i have had a couple of interested party's but we need more. Contact me at jacsplace@iinet.net.au .

This is the reply i have got from the council.
Hi Craig
I have been liaising with Wendy and Phil in regards to the netball courts and your car club. In regards to your last email to Wendy we were not aware that you are able to use a temporary track such as the one you mentioned. With this being the case, I am checking with other departments to make sure there are no other issues with you using this location until we can find you a permanent location where you can put an on-road track in place.
I am hoping to get back to you early next week to give you a more definite answer and hopefully set up arrangements for you to use this location. In the meantime I will still be looking out for a permanent location and should you have any questions in regards to this, feel free to contact me.
So it looks like we might get to use the area until they can find a more permanent venue. But the track needs to be removable, i was thinking hose pipe. If anyone has a better idea let me know.

I'm wondering if its worth us going back to the rockingham council to see if we can get a site at Lark Hill, thats where all the other sports facilities are, might be worth a shot.

I have just been down to the kwinana site for another look, there is a nice big piece of vacant land right next to the netball courts. i am going to ask about it when i speak with the council next week. This land has not been used for 40 years, maybe we could get the council to swing a fence our way. The land is flat and there is only a few trees, and there is a club house right next door. Ive already asked the question about lark hill and basically its sport only, i will see if i can find the email from the rockingham council.

Its all still negotiations with the council atm. Stretch is ya best contact. Btw Woody, apologies i meant to call you back on the weekend!
Speaking of tracks, I was walking the dog in rockingham at the soccer club near the old rockingham track, and i saw a pile of big shipping rope and traffic cones like we'd use at autumn river. Thought ooh we could use that to mark a track out on the grass! kept walking, and i saw some painted lines on the grass. Had a look look, and FMD, someone had clearly been using it as an RC track! Setup was about 3-4m wide track, all up twice the size of WC. Dunno if it had been nitro or electric drivers, but someone had been there.

latest update from the council, this email today.
Sorry Craig,
I have been meaning to contact you today. I have finally heard back from Environmental Health, they have said that we will need to perform another sound test and I am now just waiting to hear when we can go ahead with that. Unfortunately I am not in until next Tuesday but if you call 9439 0286 you should be able to talk to Kelly Taylor or Tiana Anderson, from our Environmental Health department, to schedule a time for the sound check. I have emailed them about the sound test already. Hopefully there isn't any problems with this, if so you can contact Wendy on 9439 0269 or myself next week when I am back in the office.
Apologies again with the delay in getting back to you.
The reason for the sound check is because a proposal to race nitro cars was earlier declined. Im told they exceeded the noise level limit by 1db. I will be getting this noise level test done asap. So i am going to need some volunteers to come down for a run, this will give you a chance to have a look at the new area for the track.

Bring your off road cars as well, if we can have a track which we can pack away after each event there is no reason offoad cant run, Astro turf will be the way for this. Just one more thing to add, while i was talking to the council they mentioned on and off road in the same area. So we might get to use some of the vacant land nearby for off road, I'm also told that they plan to resurface the area, this is going to be for the netball. If we can co exist with the net ballers we might get this as a more permanent home.

Been thinking about that today Craig, even asked the missus how much time I could "volunteer". Maybe look into what we need to do to apply for Lotteries grant - Transponders, astro turf, and materials will cost $$ unless we can get businesses to donate - any ideas? If you want, could get a reporter from the Sound Telegraph down to raise some awareness?
stretch
03-02-2009, 08:52 PM
All good points, once we get the location which i am very confident we will we can organize a meeting for all interested party's. Definitely need to contact the papers to raise awareness. If we can get some grants from the council or lottery's commission that would go a long way in getting this club established.
KingBob
03-02-2009, 08:57 PM
Transponders we can borrow from Dave at Ryper Hobbies for the time being, have already checked that with him. Astroturf we dont need.
We will need some poly pipe to make a support to run the loop over the track (cars go under it), and the track can be marked out with rope to begin with, so minimal cost really.
Once we have some funds we can get more piping to assemble a track like the indoor onroaders.
stretch
03-02-2009, 09:14 PM
Thanks Dave from ryper hobbies for your support with the transponder, good work KB thanks for the help. This is going to be a good club once established, shall we stick with the name Kwinana radio controlled car motorplex. Has a ring to it dont you think.
KingBob
03-02-2009, 09:37 PM
Kwinana RC Motorplex should do the trick I think.
If (when) things get approved on friday, then we'll obviously need to elect a committee and get all the people interested in being members to vote on the name. Constitution we can sort out easy enough, but will need to speak to the council about public liability insurance since its their site and we'd be sharing it with netballers (for now).

" Court plan a model for creating activities, say fans
By Laura Tomlinson
A disused Medina netball court could come alive again if Kwinana Town Council approves a bid by fans of radio-controlled cars to transform the surface into a racetrack.
About 10 hobbyists met at the Thomas Oval netball courts on Friday for a noise pollution check, but the group was optimistic that their quiet electric vehicles would not pose a problem.
The group said Rockingham City Council alloted a pieces of land to a group of enthusiasts with petrol-run vehicles several years ago.
However the group was no longer able to race after it was told the "nitro" vehicles were too loud and "real sports" took precedence.
The closest tracks are in Bayswater and Bunbury.
Keen racers such as Craig Dudley and Robert James said participants who competed at the national and international title - who win lucrative sponsorship deals and spend tens of thousands of dollars on their cars - would disagree that their hobby was not a real sport. They said activities for young people were desperately needed in Kwinana.
"This sort of thing is very family oriented, you get lots of father and son teams," Mr Dudley said.
Mr James said: "We'd also be supporting local businesses like Sik Hobbies in Rockingham - even though there's no track down here they sell about 50 cars a week."
Entry level vehicles cost around $350, but all parts are removable and replacable.
If the group is given the go-ahead to race on the courts they will form a club and committee, and start holding regular races and meets.
Mr Dudley said they would love to create an off-road track behind the courts.
A Kwinana Town Council employee said there was significantly more ambient noise in the area created by passing cars than was created by the 10 electric vehicles and their owners."
Many thanks to the Sound Telegraph for the article.

Hi Craig
I have noticed that there seems to be some communication issues within your club which I would like to sit down with you and try to resolve. Unfortunately Phil is no longer able to make the meeting on Monday, he has recently been in hospital recovering from a heart attack. We have pushed the meeting back a week, but this will depend on Phil's condition at that time. I will contact you when we have a definite date booked in.
I know you and the others are eager to get going, however there needs to be an agreement in place before you start to use the courts and the president of your club needs to be there to discuss the terms of those agreements. I look forward to meeting all the members of your committee and any other interested parties in two weeks time.
Please feel free to contact me should you wish to discuss the matter further.
So who is this self apointed presisdent that she talks of, ill give her a clall and find out.
Cheers, Craig

Now for everyone who wants to be involved i can set up a meeting for Wednesday next week at 5.30PM, if this is OK let me know and i will contact Ashley and arrange it. Also Ashley has told me she has spoken to the Rockingham council about the landfill site and have been informed that the area is still designated for the Rockingham off road club. The good news is we can use the netball courts for onroad, we will see the draft agreement on usage and what there requirements are soon. Also some other good news, they will be looking at the land behind the netball courts to see if we can use this to build a off road track. And just maybe this can be used for nitro buggy's. Now what we need to do now is form the club. That means getting all interested party's down to the site so we can discuss committee members and every thing else to form this club. I would like to propose Sunday week as a good time at about 1.00pm down at the netball courts. Email me at jacsplace@iinet.net.au with your name and contact number if you are interested.

Thats great news, the question is,
can we make the onroad track permanent
or is the area still to be shared with the netballers ??

The area we proposed to the council for off road is sand and trees and it will be permanent. They just need to talk to there environmental people on the usage of the land. They are even willing to throw some money our way in the sum of $4000 to get us going. The area for the on road cant be permanent but they agreed that we might be able to co exist with the net ballers. We will just have to set it up like precc does at the moment, we have been offered storage at the site to put our gear away.

I have spoken too Ashley today and she informs me that the land behind the netball courts has nearly been approved for us to use it for off road. It has passed the through environmental protection and town planning for us to use it, and we only need one more approval for us to go ahead. She thinks we will get it so we can talk off road at the meeting this Saturday.

Just in from the council
Hi Craig
Please find attached the booking form that the club will need to fill out to hire the courts off us to get you started. Please also find attached the club information form that I spoke to you about. If the club could fill it out and return it to me once they have formed, that would be great. I am still finding out about the power for you, so will let you know about that after your meeting.
So as soon as we fill the forms in we can start using the courts, We should be up and running in three weeks at a guess.
