I buy most of my parts locally, even before the finacial crisis, some parts actually worked out cheaper locally... The last few months i've been buying local, only bought from the US once.

Well i know Vamps and i are the only exclusions here but local isnt WA ... lol .

I buy all my stuff either in forums or at hobby shops here in Melb , pretty much only use ebay for the vintage stuff

I ticked local, because 90% of my stuff in the last few months has been local, due to down turn in the dollor, and the stock on the shelf was brought with a good AU dollor.

Previously i was buying old gear or nib old gear off ebay, But it was all complete kits or NIP option parts for vintage chassis i have.

Spare parts had allways been local buys and my rc racing stuff has been all local since day dot.

i started at LHS but when they couldnt supply me with parts 99% of the time i turned to OS because i could get it quicker.. and most of the time cheaper... now i am 50/50 i will try the LHS and if they dont have what i want OS it is!!! i would buy all from LHS if even one of them could supply what i wanted... i usually do the ring around but no one seems to stock spares!!!

amain and stormer are my main places, i hit perthrc every now and then when i'm desperate but the local prices are normally stupidly exaggerated. i know its not the hobby shops fault and the extra mouth to feed by way of a normally greedy importer is too blame, but i'm not flush with cash and have a deep seated hatred of importers who tie up a brand then rip people off so refuse to give them money.

I am trying to go more local now but half the bits I need are still an internet purchase although shipping times / costs are getting worse. I'll agree with obz in that while we have some shitty hobby stores here some are quite good but backed by sub-par importers who want to make their cut as well. Example? The Traxxas E-Revo was out for MONTHS before it's been released here, the Traxxas Summit is released in the USA Dec 24 and word is Southern Model Supplies may not even import it at all! Look at the good Tamiya kits, IFS-R, TA05-R, MS, 415/416 etc, if we want them we have to go o'seas because our importer would rather keep filling the stores with TT-01's.

Perth RC without a doubt has to be THE best hobby shop in town .. Although I have bought a lot of my stuff from E-bay and A-main hobbies I always love going in and talking to the guys down there and getting advice and tips on various things and you can't put a price on that .. Also compared to other hobby shops they have to be about the cheapest in town as well .. Great friendly service every time makes me not worry about spending a little extra in their shop.
