id pull the 540 out of it , throw in a Jaycar 6V 360 sized motor and then learn how to drive an RC car first before trying to drift it ...
haha ... gotcha

The Evo4 is a good chassis, little hard to get setup at first but once its done it'll be a great drifter ,
As for the TA02, Its on the rare side, no-one other than me and luke drift one, Mines fully kitted out and goes hard and is a great car i love them, little hard on some drive components due to design, its a old car from 1992 era. If you want any help or info just holla.
This is my old girl..

What brand/make of tyre are they?
Or are they poly pipe homemade ones?
What surface are you running on?
Here's eichkay with his TA02 with the HPI type A tyres-

Yeah Pete .. try the HPI T Drifts (i think that's what they're called) .. i have a yokomo drifter and was running their stock plastics and it was a bit hard to control .. i then swapped to the HPI tyre and its heaps better .. also it takes a bit of practice to get used to the car and the way it slides .. so have patience

Knowing who you got the car from i think it'll have the HPI tires on it... practice practice practiceis the key pete. Surface has a big effect aswell.. shopping center black tar is the ideal surface.. blue metal road base is not so crash hot.

I completely agree with everything you've said.
HPI T drifts are what I run. I'm using the treaded type. Not sure if they are called something else. They seem to have a good balance of slip/grip.
Practice and patience is the key...you'll get the hang of it in no time.

But drifting is free :)
I'm pretty sure there is still a drift event scheduled at Bayswater for Feb 1st.
That will give you a couple of weeks to get the hang of things.

You mean Scott (the heat doesn't bother me) Hampton? Will be a real struggle to get him away from the aircon :)
I may just head down to Curtain Uni again. I've got my eye on a spot at one of the new car parks. Has a huge tree with lots of shade...could be the go!

Ah. Not too worry. There will be plenty of time to drift over the next few months.
