View Full Version : popularity of 4wd off road 1/10th electric
yo.
i currently race a 2wd off road buggy, its great and i love it. the car i have is very entry level but ive almost got it handling how it should. but, soon enough its time to upgrade. i think i will purchase something other than a 2wd and still continue to race the 2wd i have in a 2wd class.
its a toss up between 4wd and stadium truck.
(bring on the wank jokes, yes i said "toss up")
* stadium trucks, huge, lots of racers, handle well, but its just another 2wd.
*4wd, sleek, all 4 wheels driving, struggles for competitors at a race meet.
any feedback or comments are very welcome! :)

Surely you'd want to race something that has enough people to fill a class? ie. no to 4wd. Personally, I love the losi xxx4 and would get one in an instant if it weren't so damn expensive, although I've seen them on ebay aorund the $4-500 mark which I guess is ALOT better than what RMS were trying to sell the previous model for.

There is normally enough Stock 4WD's for a class at interclubs etc.
Theres a couple of decent 4WD's - The BJ4 and the XXX-4 GP
I have had a XXX-4 - Not bad, not much to change from stock setup. Throw it out on the track and drive ( *Snore! Boring) You'll need fron arms, front and rear shock towers, they have a higher break rate than others. The thinkg is also belt driven. Belt spools up a bit spongy (unlike direct drive) but is also more forgiving than direct drive.
I built Maxd Out's BJ4 - It's a hibred. It has TC3, B4 and XXX-4 parts as well as some custom built alum bits. Its shaft driven with an inline slipper system. There is one thing I don't like about it and thats the front hinge pins are captured buy the chassis. This one you'll have to get spare font arms! It spools up hell fast, making the driver really have to think about "throttle control".
4WD is more fun with mod, if you like drifting!
Truck - Mmmm Truck! *drool*. Loose end and floaty! All honesty, I think you'll enjoy truck more than 4wd. 4wd is a tad boring. I plan on buying a FT T4 soon myself.

XXX4 GP, GREAT unit, very forgiving when racing due to the 4wd set up, AWESOME to drive with Modified but costs Shit loads to be competitive in that class, I really believe the stock class would be the way to go, yep i know people see it as being boring but hey different strokes for different folks, and Matto that would suit you mate, with all the Tossing up you do,hehehehe !lmao , Stock 4WD class can be more than competitive if we do have a lot more racing in the class, I think if we continue to shy away from it there will end up being NO 4WD classes, which would be a shame.
Now Truck, well what can I say except BLOODY AWESOME, they are great units to drive, very easy to work on plenty of competitors and plenty of parts ( Track Side Hobbies ) yeah I know can't help myself !amazed , but really with the amount of people now running i would like to think that we would end up with a stock class as well, therefore the young up and comming guys could start in an affordable class and the mums and dads would be more inclinded to give it a go as well, due to the $$$, any way matto if you need to give me a yell and remember mate it's really up to YOUR WALLET.
Cheers. T.O.B. !evil

well , 4wds , stock 4wd is one of the best ways to learn to win . you can use tyres that are not so new and still win . i raced 4wd stock for two years and love every race , well 4wd open this year see's , myself , daz wise , mr d, gav suck, nath h , graig malpas , michael cleak , richard whitehead , and id say ash whitt , will soon be upto mod as he's about six months from modified racing ,and may be maxxed out ,thats 10 of us at a race day , so most of us now will be running at interclubs , so dont hold back get your self a 4wd losi xxx4g+ , i onyl run my losi xxx4g+ at interclubs as like mitch said theres two of everything to keep sweet , so if you want to learn come race with us lot , one mistake and your gone for that race ,

keyesy, whats parts availability like for a xxx4g+ ? and average kit cost?
would you say 4wd r/c break parts more frequently than other forms? requiring more attention/maintenance?
curious... always been curious about 4wd.

James Parts are always available from Trackside boys, if you do regular work on your 4WD you will have less breakages also if it's driven the right way it will look after you as well, hmmm, very profound I know but hey shit happens, 4WD GREAT fun.mate

you dont break more parts with a 4wd , theres just more to them and a bit more tool work , little criss brown runs one every week down at bayswater but his dad looks after it for him. the xxx4G+ are great when you get to know them at first it looks like a load of work to do . but if you drive the car not rag the thing round the track it will not break . parts well theres loads of parts, id see mitch for losi stuff or the internet in the u.s . no hobby shop keeps losi in perth , may be alittle at p.h.c or perth r.c . r.m.s dont have a washer . but have alot of other stuff at a good price . they stock assoicated B4/T4 stuff , rypers have a bit of losi xxx4g+
well price , the best price your find is hobby mania in h.kong
about $490 au to your door , see mitch first see what he can do . he take the stress out of it for ya , r.m.s dont even try with losi , but if you want one from them give jules at r.m.s a call he may be able to do some thing , 9362 2133 , or ebay , theres some times a good one , for about $300au get the g+ losi not the first pace of crap they tryed ,

I wouldn't mind getting into 4WD myself. When I was racing 10 years ago winning the 4WD modified class was the cream of the crop so to speak.
Does anyone still race Yokomo's?
