I bought a tamiya TGS and this car is fairly slow, so I bought another car second hand that had a Force 17 motor but stripped gears. I cant get the new gears to mesh up correctly so I was wondering if I would be able to pull the force 12 out of the TGS and bolt in the force 17?
Is this a straight forward easy job?
Thanks

So the TGS has a Force .12 in it already?
If so, the Force .17 is exactly the same bolt pattern and has the same pull start, so it will bolt in no problem. Just transfer the flywheel, clutch, clutch bell and engine mounts off the original motor and bolt it all back in
You just have to make sure that the Force .17 has a threaded crank not an SG or short crank, otherwise it wont fit.
Are you finding the car accelerates too slowly, or hasnt got enough top speed?
If top speed is the problem, the Force .17 will not fix your problem, because it puts out less rpm than the Force .12.
If you want to go faster, get your hands on a TGS-R spur gear, otherwise known as Tamiya TGS high speed tuned gear....its just a bit taller and gives you more top end speed.
Also, block up the hole on the bottom of the chassis for the ACS (Active Cooling System)....you'll get heaps of rocks caught in it otherwise!!

Thanks for that info BALISTC, I am going to check out that hole for the ACS as the car was making a clunking noie which sounded like a rock cought somewhere, I thought I had blown the engine.

Definatly get the high speed tuned gear, it makes tonnes of difference. The tuned gear made tonnes of difference to my TGS.
Useless Trivia: Apparently the Force .12 is made by O.S. - Pretty cool eh ;) According to my LHS any O.S. motor will bolt straight into the TGS mounts (unfortunatly the TGS doesnt have adjustable mounts).
Just be warned, the flywheel on tamiya car's are very prone to comeing loose, i generally find that putting some thread lock on the pilot shaft's thread will stop it coming loose, but it will take you a minimum of 4 hours to get it off again.

Where did you hear that the Force engines were made by O.S.?

Most engines made by O.S. have the same configuration, where as Force engines have a completely different pull start setup to the O.S. ones..

It seems to be the general consensus around the tamiya fanboys. Also if you look at the engone, the only difference between the O.S. small blocks and the force is the head and the writing on the side.

That's the stock tamiya engine, not a Force 12. The Force engines are usually included with Ofna/Hong Nor products.

Not to mention the crankshaft, conrod, back plate, starter shaft, one way bearing and pull start assembly.
The Tamiya motor you have pictured there is made by O.S., and Epic engines are a rebadged Tamiya FS18 from the Tamiya TNX.
Force make Hong Nor, HoBao, Colt, Ofna and HPI engines, although they arent all identical.

If you're a dumbass I am too
I thought they were the same the first time I saw the brands
edit: from reading some of my posts does anyone think I may be dyslexic?

Hey its all good, you learn something new every day :)
To clear things up (or make everything more confusing), here are some manufacturers and which brands they make.
O.S. = As well as their own engines, they make some Tamiya, some Duratrax, and Epic engines.
Force = Their own, plus Hong Nor, Ho Bao, Colt, HPI, Ofna
Novarossi = Their own, plus Rossi, Rex, Top, Sirio, NovaMega, Picco and Team Orion.
Toki = Samurai, Team Infinity, Fantom
SH = Their own, plus XTM, Megatech, Mach, GS, SH, Sportwerks and LRP
I think these are all correct, I did find out this info a while agot, but I'll make any adjustments to the info if I find out any different.
