Wow we have are own room to chat in now, things are moving along. I am going to buy the parts to make the loop for the transponder system this weekend. Just call it a donation for the books, planning on going down to the site this Saturday to mark out my idea for a track, feel free to join me guys.
Cheers, Craig

Are we allowed to mark out with paint on the track? Or do we have to wait until we know whats going on with the netball people? If not, anyone know where we can get some pieces of carpet? If we halve a square piece diagonally and cut them in curves to mark the outside of corners. If that makes sense? lol

I can supply plenty of cable for a loop, have miles of Cat5 at work. Should also be able to supply a PC or laptop to run Alycat on.

Spoke to Dave again today, we're definitely still OK to use his transponders, but we'll need to get a copy of Alycat, but i think it's pretty cheap.

OK i have been to bunnings and i can get 10 4 meter lengths of poli pipe for 44 dollars. Thats 44 meters of track, how much do you think we will need guys.

KingBob

Only really need to mark the inner lines of the track, the court lines can form the outer lines, just work within them.

I will be checking out Clark rubber next to see what they have on the selves, I was thinking chalk so we can get an idea of a track layout, this is so we can work out how much material we need. Dont worry about wires as i work for a electronics company.

Kwinana will be holding its first un official race meet on the third of may. This will allow people to come down and help with track prep to help iron out any bugs. We are still sourcing material to help build the track so if anyone can help with this it would be much appreciated.

The format for the day will be
1) track design and construction
2) Testing transponder system
3) anything else required
4) racing tests

We will start at 11am in the morning and hopefully finish at 5pm or sooner. It depends how many numbers we get. Oh by the way membership forms will be available on the day if you would like to join.

Any questions

Just a bit of new on the on road side of things, we now have a official letter from the council to use the netball courts. However this will be on a two month trial period, if we have no complaints from nabouring houses we will be given the green light to carry on. Personally i dont think we will have any problems. We have been given a key to the gate and storage area so we have a place to store equipment. one other thing is the council is going to do is resurface the area so this will be good for us.

The biggest problem was that you had to remove the entire upper deck to do anything to it. Even to get a diff out. The upper deck had about 4-6 screws at the front and the back, and some in the middle. And if memory serves, had to take the shock towers/mounts off to get the diff covers off. A right pain.

You can use strappiing tape to hold the batterys in ( get from bunnings) but the battery strap is much better.
you need tires,
Much More 32 i used the sweeps but everybody reckons the absolutes are better
a body, a 4 door body is needed, something like mazda 6, LTC, or dodge strauts, are ones that work well,

the evo 4 have a lower diff ratio and you will needs some really big pinoins and a small spur gear , if you want to run a 17.5

the evo 4 has a 2.29 diff ratio,

What do you recon guys about doing a upgrade on the track, Going to try some polypipe. Going to use the yellow pipe for the bends and the polypipe for the straights. this should solve the problem of the hoses being knocked out of position. the pipe will still slide and move when hit,
we have that problem at precc ..

valyau2002
12-06-2009, 11:14 PM
The polypipe will be too lightweight and move heaps when hit. They need to be staked down or weighted down somehow. Not really feasible to stake them down and weighting them down will be too impractical for a quick setup and breakdown. Might as well save the dollars in the kitty for the time being. Use the heavier yellow pipe on the corners that get hit the most perhaps even double up on the really prone corners. I think Kev still has some more of the yellow pipe left over. Use some of the cash and get some gaffa tape! See if we can source some kind of trolley for the times when a trailer isn't available to haul the tyres and hose to and from the storage room.

stretch
13-06-2009, 05:38 PM
Sorry val but the purchase has been made, We now have 100 meters of the stuff. My plan is to use a hole saw on the tires so the pipe can fit inside, this will stop the pipe from moving around. For the corners we can use the yellow pipe filled with sand. The yellow pipe will fit into the PVC pipe i have just purchased. Now from my calculations we should have enough PVC pipe and yellow hose to make the track or not far from it. If this work which i am sure it will, I will buy some more pipe next week. Also we might need some more tires Kev.

valyau2002
13-06-2009, 08:54 PM
Ahh, I suppose the pipe will be light to carry and easy to put together.

There's been a change of plans for me and I should be able to come down tomorrow but I probably won't be there till a little later.

I think they race 4wd mini's in vic, known as outlaw class.. Other issue is tire size's .. them cup racers have a larger diameter tire, it wouldnt bother me as i'd whoop your arse anyway :D but others may/would see you have possible advantage.

But its all in the beginings anyways.. rules have to be easy going and not hard ball to get the class happening.... not everyone going to rush out and buy a new car to meet the rules if they have somthing that sorta meets the requirements, and doesnt want to downgrade.

I was thinking a high density foam, something with a bit of weight so we can slide the PVC pipe into it. This should stop it from moving and the cars wont get as much damage. I will go into Clarke rubber tomorrow and see what they have. They also have a foam cutting service so we can get any shape we want.

I'll stick up the photos I took today on the Kwinana photo thread over the next couple of days. Cool day and great seeing a lot of new faces come down to race. The more the merrier.... or more carnage in stock and novice at least!

Good to see the meet went well and its good to be back from Albany. Now its time to get back into some racing. Hope the weather is as good as its been down Albany. So can someone pick up the transponders tomorrow. Shaun you still have the key so i guess i will see you guys at 10 AM Sunday morning. Good to see numbers are on the increase as well.

keep an eye on the weather radar, but the BOM forecast for today is;

Forecast for Sunday
Rain easing to a shower or two around sunrise. Showers increasing tonight with
the chance of a thunderstorm. Moderate to fresh SW winds becoming W/NW during
the day and strong and squally NW'ly tonight.

So we may a fairly good window of time with which to race in
