Ok, so I tried putting the Beast in my Mini-T for racing friday night, found out it doesn't fit. Nevermind. I put the Mamba into my M18 to see how fast an onroad car could be pushed.

My M18 runs a 7cell GP blindbatts pack so I figured it'd be less punchy and slower than in my Mini-T which has an 8cell pack.

Well, first impression wasn't good. Still cogged even though there was less weight/friction. Not too bad, but enough so you couldn't hammer the throttle on takeoff.

Top speed was ridiculous. I used the same gearing as what I normally run with the Beast. Too much speed. Car was so unstable it flipped numerous times and is now pretty screwed :(

In comparison to the Beast, the Mamba had a fair bit more top speed although the Beast was still very very fast (just not clearly too fast). The biggest difference was the acceleration. The Beast has awesome controlable acceleration. It feels as though you have more than enough torque from takeoff all the way up to mid-top speed. The Mamba felt like it was struggling to get going, but from mid-top speed is where it shone.

So, in conclusion, I think I'm gonna sell my Mamba and get another Beast+new esc. To me, there is little fun in ridiculous top speeds if you have to take off so slowly (in comparison). The Beast is just a kick ass motor that I reckon feels much better.

you know the mamba can be tuned with the USB link. you can completely control the throttle and braking curve's, etc... I might eventually buy one when my mini-T gets a bit more serious :)

on another note. I have my 6800 mamba on LOW setting, and it's still damn quick. :)

yeah I was comparing with my Beast Raptor. Your 6800 might be quick off the mark, but my Beast is quicker....;)

I cannot see any way the Phoenix Link will get the mamba bottom to midrange anywhere near what my Beast does. It is THAT different. I can see it improving in certain areas at the expense of others, but it will still be primarily a high speed motor.

My reasoning is just that I don't need any of that extra speed anymore. Anything past FAST (ie really fast, super fast and ultra fast) is just gonna make me crash more.

Don't get me wrong, as a bashing motor, it is freakin awesome!!!! But, seeing as you guys are hassling me to race :P which I want to do, I'm gonna get a more sensible motor that will perform better on the track.

Lets see how the beast goes on the race track, I know damn well they are good motors (from what I've read on one18th.com). I'm confident it will go well. Be careful with your gearing.. as in, the mamba will likely handle higher gearing more than a brushed motor would...

cya Fri night!

Actually, I'm not so sure about how well the mamba actually does handle higher gearing....Maybe it's just me, but using the stock gearing (which should be fine), my mamba is smoking hot (almost) at the end of a run. Shawn from CC said I should be able to run any gearing cos of all the torque, but I guess I was just a little unimpressed at the end of the day.

If anything, I'd want to run a (much) smaller pinion so that it'd have the initial *oomph*, but I couldn't fit a smaller pinion on.

Bah, doesn't matter know. Mamba is sold. Too late to try anything more with it. Bring on the Beast!

RC_king, have you got your specs handy? The readout I got with mine was a fair bit higher than the average specs they put out on the website from memory. Not trying to blow my own horn, just saying I was pleasantly surprised :)

No going back for me :P I've had the pleasure, but the beast is better suited to racing for sure.

looks like there will be a posse of 1/18th off-road racers this fri night, shame BB prob wont be there hehehe.

now, we just need to sabotage Ivan's stock mini-T so he doesnt win! :)

We'll just knock him off the track! :D

Either way, he'll probably still beat me...I've never raced before so I'm a total n00b with way too much power! :(

I used one last week. Basically it lets you update the firmware of the speedy, set a throttle curve, and set the other settings you normally do manually.
